Veterinary Technician Assistant – Exotics Department
Location: Layton, UT | Mountain West Veterinary Specialists
Are you eager to gain hands-on experience with exotic animals and grow in the veterinary field? Mountain West Veterinary Specialists is hiring a Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our Exotics Department! This is a unique opportunity to support a team that provides expert care to reptiles, birds, small mammals, and more in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
As a locally owned 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital, we proudly serve Northern Utah and beyond—offering advanced diagnostics and exceptional care for a wide variety of species.
What You’ll Do:
- Support technicians and veterinarians during exams, procedures, and treatments
- Provide gentle, informed handling of exotic species
- Clean, prepare, and maintain exam rooms, equipment, and patient housing
- Assist with sample collection, patient monitoring, and basic lab work
- Perform daily care duties such as feeding, cleaning enclosures, and administering medications under supervision
- Maintain accurate patient records and help ensure smooth clinical operations
What We’re Looking For:
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in a veterinary or animal care setting preferred
- Prior experience with exotic species is a plus, but not required—we’ll train the right candidate!
- Strong attention to detail, initiative, and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays (rotating schedule)
- Excellent communication and a compassionate, can-do attitude
- Can work Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays with flexibility based on hospital needs and holidays
