As a Claims Advocate at Mountain West Insurance & Financial Services, you will be a key contributor by creating excellent customer experiences while processing client claims. Your focus will be on providing proactive claims management and identifying claim trends to assist in minimizing exposure while ensuring a high level of client satisfaction.
Performance Expectations/Responsibilities
- Claims Intake and Processing:
- Receive and respond to the first report of claims.
- Determine the correct insurance policy for claim submission.
- Prepare the First Notice of Loss Report and submit it to the insurance carrier.
- Collaborate with the insurance carrier to ensure prompt assignment to an adjuster and first contact
- Advise clients on Claim Number and Adjuster Contact Information for effective communication.
- Documentation and Communication:
- Document comprehensive Claims Information and all related communications in EPIC (agency management system).
- Understand various coverages and engage in discussions with Adjusters as needed.
- Document claims reserves and settlements in EPIC.
- Monitor reserves to verify appropriateness and communicate findings.
- Document the closing of claims in EPIC and communicate to insured, producers, and account executives.
- Quality Management:
- Ensure adherence to best practices for high quality management of claims.
- Prepare detailed claim summary reports and coverage reviews as requested.
- Client Engagement:
- Conduct ongoing claim reviews for assigned clients.
- Review claims on loss runs to support Account Executives in marketing renewals.
- Advisory Role:
- Advise Producers and Account Executives on various claims matters, including:
- Large Accident, Reserves, or Death Claims.
- Frequency Issues.
- Loss Control or Safety Issues.
Compensation & Benefits

- Demonstrate ability to collaborate as a team-oriented individual, fostering effective working relationships with clients, fellow team members, adjusters, and insurance companies.
- Knowledge of insurance coverages, products, and usages, or a high level of technical insurance expertise.
- Preferred experience in handling claims.
- Capable of reviewing and analyzing detailed information for accuracy and completeness.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze and interpret complex and abstract insurance situations.
- Efficient self-direction and multitasking capabilities in a fast-paced department.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
- College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Proficient in using a personal computer, calculator, agency automation systems, and various application/software programs (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Epic).
- Maintain insurance license as required by the appropriate State Department of Insurance, and Mountain West Insurance & Financial Services, LLC.
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk while using a computer and other office equipment.
- Repetitive motion tasks, such as typing, data entry, and phone use.
- Occasional lifting of files or other materials, typically weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to move freely around the office space to collaborate with colleagues or access office resources.
- Visual acuity to read documents, screens, and fine print on documents.
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and handle paperwork efficiently.
- Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail in a sometimes fast paced and multitasking environment.
- The office environment typically has a moderate noise level consistent with a professional office setting.
- Some travel may be required for this position, primarily for attending training sessions, conferences, or meetings with clients or stakeholders. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be necessary for travel to off-site locations.
