Support Staff – Educational Support Personnel (Non-Exempt)
Reports To: Director of Buildings & Grounds / Building Administrator

We are seeking a dependable and service-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role is essential to the daily operations of our schools and plays a vital part in student safety, health, and pride in our facilities.
What You’ll Do
As a Custodian, you will provide custodial and light maintenance support throughout the school building and grounds, including but not limited to:
Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitary classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, stairways, and common areas
Collect and properly dispose of trash and recycling
Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and urgent custodial needs
Perform snow and ice removal and ensure safe building access and exits
Set up and break down spaces for school and special events
Monitor building systems (HVAC, lighting, safety systems) and report concerns
Perform minor repairs and light maintenance (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting)
Maintain custodial equipment and supply inventory
Clean light fixtures and replace bulbs as needed
Examine facilities for safety, fire, and security concerns
Communicate regularly with building administrators and the Facilities Director
Follow OSHA and safety regulations at all times
?? Custodial staff may be called in outside regular hours during emergencies or snowfall.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
1–2 years of custodial, maintenance, or commercial cleaning experience preferred
Experience with floor care equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums) is a plus
Skills & Abilities
Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work
Basic math, reading, and communication skills
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Courteous and professional communication with students, staff, families, and visitors
Personal Qualities
Dependable, punctual, and responsible
Calm under pressure and adaptable to changing priorities
Cooperative team player with a service-oriented mindset
Honest, ethical, and respectful
Physically capable of performing job duties safely
Physical & Work Environment Expectations
This position involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, and repetitive motions. Employees regularly work around cleaning chemicals, equipment, dust, noise, and varying temperatures common to educational facilities. Supervision
Receives daily assignments and evaluation from the Facilities Director and/or Building Administrator
No formal supervisory responsibilities, though may assist or train coworkers
Terms of Employment
Terms, schedule, and compensation are outlined in the official letter of employment
Performance evaluations conducted at least twice per year
