We are seeking an experienced Claims Manager to lead, develop, and oversee the full freight claims lifecycle for Mountain Valley Express. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Claims Leadership & Oversight
- Manage the full freight loss and damage claims process from intake to final settlement
- Develop, improve, and enforce claims procedures aligned with legal and industry standards
- Provide guidance and escalation support on complex or high-value claims
- Lead investigations, including gathering documentation, statements, and evidence
- Determine claim validity, assess liability, and negotiate resolution or settlement
- Maintain professional communication with customers, carriers, legal representatives, and internal departments
- Monitor claims metrics, identify trends, and recommend process improvements or loss-prevention strategies
- Ensure proper recordkeeping and compliance with NMFC, cargo liability rules, and federal regulations
- Prepare monthly/quarterly reports for leadership review
- Work closely with Operations to identify root causes and corrective actions
- Partner with leadership teams to reduce claim frequency and improve service quality
- Support training and education initiatives relating to cargo handling, documentation, and claim prevention
- Strong investigative and analytical reasoning skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to manage high-volume workflows, deadlines, and competing priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; TMS and claim software preferred
- Knowledge of LTL operations, NMFC classifications, and freight liability regulations strongly preferred
- Process-driven mindset with strong leadership, accountability, and customer service focus
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of freight claims experience, including claim management responsibility
- Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership strongly preferred
