As the Food Service Director, you will oversee the daily operations of the food service department, ensuring residents receive nourishing, attractive, and well-balanced meals in accordance with physician orders, facility standards, and federal, state, and local regulations. This position plays a critical role in resident satisfaction, health, and overall quality of care.

What You’ll Do
- Oversee the daily operations of the food service department
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate food service programs and activities
- Ensure all meals are prepared and served in accordance with physician orders, resident preferences, and dietary guidelines
- Meet with nursing, medical, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate resident dietary needs
- Review residents’ diet orders and assist in planning prescribed meal plans
- Interview residents and family members regarding food preferences and dietary history
- Monitor food preparation and meal service to ensure quality, consistency, and proper food handling procedures
- Inspect the dietary department daily to ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain the kitchen, storage, and food service areas in a clean, organized, and compliant condition
- Assist with purchasing, ordering, inventory, and storage of food, supplies, and equipment
- Develop and maintain standardized recipes and menu procedures
- Monitor food waste and implement corrective actions to improve meal satisfaction and reduce waste
- Assist with planning and preparing special meals, holiday events, and resident celebrations
- Participate in resident care planning meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions
- Investigate complaints and communicate concerns or corrective actions to facility leadership
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate food service staff
- Provide staff education, orientation, and ongoing training related to food service standards and safety practices
- Ensure department policies and procedures are updated annually
- Report accidents, incidents, equipment issues, and hazardous conditions immediately
- Practice and enforce safe work habits at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- College degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Food Service Management, or related field preferred
- Successful completion of a food service management program preferred
- Previous experience in food service management required
- Previous long-term care, healthcare, or institutional food service experience preferred
- Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification preferred
- Knowledge of food service regulations, sanitation standards, and dietary requirements in a healthcare setting
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage staff, scheduling, inventory, and meal service operations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
- Frequent bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, and lifting required
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely handle kitchen equipment, food carts, and heavy pots or supplies
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
