Mountain Recreation is seeking a friendly, dependable, and customer-focused team member for the Gypsum Recreation Center to perform both Front Desk and Supervisor on Duty (SOD) responsibilities. In this role, you will welcome guests, handle admissions, registrations, pass sales, equipment rentals, and answer phones while maintaining excellent customer experience. When assigned as SOD, you will oversee daily facility operations, supervise on-duty staff, support training, monitor safety, and ensure opening and closing procedures are completed accurately. This position requires strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills, and offers base pay for Front Desk duties with a higher differential for SOD assignments.

POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Front Desk Attendant/Supervisor on Duty
Location: Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)
Employment Type: Part-Time, Year-Round
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)
Schedule: Primarily Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Mondays from 3:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Schedules are variable and may include additional evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the operational needs of the facility.
Supervision Required: Reports to the Gypsum Recreation Center Facility Coordinator and Facility Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: Provides direct supervision to facility support staff at the assigned location.
Work Environment and Physical Demand: Duties may be performed indoors or outdoors, depending on the facility and program, and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions. The role requires sustained focus and attention to detail. Typical physical activities include walking, bending, kneeling, lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling equipment and supplies. Job-related stress may include managing crowds, interacting with challenging participants, exposure to illness, and periods of sustained activity.

Salary:
- Front Desk Attendant: $18.49 – 23.11/hour, DOE
- Supervisor on Duty: $21.50 - $26.87/hour, DOE
Staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties: Performs a variety of office and facility duties, including reception, customer transactions, and cash handling, while providing general office support. Supports the smooth operation of the recreation facility with a degree of independence, ensuring supervision, safety, and security of the facility. Fosters an environment that aligns with the facility’s program philosophies, mission, and goals.
Essential Functions:
- Welcome guests and pass holders, providing a positive first impression and exceptional customer service.
- Manage day-to-day facility operations, including opening and closing procedures, supervising on-duty staff, and ensuring smooth execution of programs and events.
- Serve as cashier for facility fees, program registrations, pass sales, concessions, and other transactions; notify participants of program or class changes or cancellations.
- Handle inquiries, bookings, and payments accurately and efficiently, maintaining comprehensive knowledge of all facility programs, services, and offerings.
- Supervise patrons during facility programs to ensure safety and proper use of facilities; maintain security and report incidents such as vandalism or theft.
- Respond to accidents or emergencies according to established procedures, notifying supervisors and emergency services as needed, and maintain accurate records.
- Set up and break down equipment and facilities for programs and events.
- Communicate with participants, volunteers, coaches, and spectators regarding program information and behavioral expectations.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to facility staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.
- Identify and report safety hazards related to equipment or the facility environment.
- Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure adequate coverage for programs and events.
Other Duties:
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service, resolving issues professionally and courteously.
- Maintain safety, cleanliness, and organization of work areas, lobby, and front desk; perform light maintenance such as picking up towels, sweeping/mopping floors, and wiping counters.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures and support other cleaning or operational tasks as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service sessions as required.
- Complete special projects or additional tasks as assigned that are consistent with the operational needs of the facility.
- Maintain a positive attitude, take initiative, and work collaboratively with all staff to promote efficiency and camaraderie.

Requirements
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable knowledge of: cash register operation and cash handling, including the ability to count money and make change; and recreation facility management, including facility operations, program delivery, and risk management.
Skills and abilities:
- Proficient with computers and point-of-sale systems.
- General knowledge of recreation, sports, physical fitness, and leisure activities.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to create positive experiences for patrons.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to exercise independent judgment in day-to-day operations.
- Ability to provide leadership within the team, guiding and supporting staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
- Establish and maintain positive, respectful, and cooperative relationships with patrons, staff, volunteers, players, coaches, and spectators.
Education and experience:
- Must be 18 years or older; AND
- High school diploma or equivalent; AND
- At least one year of work-related experience in recreation facility supervision, including organized sports or game management, or any satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience.
- Bilingual preferred English/Spanish.
Certifications:
- May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
