GIS Technician, Granby Location

Mountain Parks Electric, Inc. (MPEI) has an immediate job opening for the position of GIS Technician located at our company headquarters in Granby, CO. MPEI is an electrical cooperative located in Granby in the north central mountains of Colorado.

Applicants must have experience with software applications including MAPPING, CAD, ESRI/ARCGIS, word processing, spread sheet and data base software or transferrable computer experience especially in mapping software required. Applicants must have and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree in technical area is desirable. Experience with GPS coordinate data collection is desirable. Must demonstrate the ability to work with the public.

This position is responsible for supporting the Engineering team and GIS coordinator in GIS functions. The position includes, but is not limited to, supporting the following duties:

• Engineering software applications and database interconnects that include ARCGIS (mapping and facilities database), NISC/MAPPING AND STAKING (staking and work management system), and their interconnections with each other and with NISC/SERVICE, NISC/FINANCIALS, NCIS DEW Microsoft Windmil (engineering analysis model), as well as any future interconnects e.g. with SCADA, OMS, etc. Maintains, develops, and implements scripts to automate common functions.
• Organizes, coordinates, maintains, and updates GIS mapping system including the following:
  • Updating electronic map data, electric system and land base including modeling of special equipment e.g. switchgear, reclosers, etc.
  • Publishing electronic map data and producing printed map products as needed.
  • Creating new maps as required. Improving land base maps as needed.
  • Maintaining and updating facilities database associated with maps.
  • Providing connectivity for engineering analysis on maps.
  • Providing sectionalizing data on maps.
  • Performing and/or inputting field GPS data gathering for new line extensions and facilities.
  • Tracking and reporting monthly the joint use counts, active service locations and lights.
  • Providing analysis and reports from GIS data as requested.
• Provides IT support to MPEI users for mapping applications.
• Strives to maintain good customer relations by providing service requested, answering questions, and offering assistance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation Range: $30.13-$41.68/ hour depending on experience.
