Position Overview

At Mountain High Outfitters, our Sales Associates are more than retail employees, they are outdoor ambassadors and gear experts dedicated to delivering an exceptional outfitting experience for every guest. This role requires individuals who are passionate about outdoor recreation and thrive in a social, high-energy retail environment.

Sales Associates are responsible for building genuine relationships with guests, identifying their needs through active listening, and recommending high-quality gear and apparel that supports their adventures. Whether a guest is preparing for a backpacking trip, a day on the trail, or simply looking for comfortable everyday outdoor wear, associates ensure they leave the store feeling confident, informed, and excited about their purchase.

The ideal candidate is 100% comfortable making friends with strangers, loves talking about outdoor activities, and takes pride in becoming a trusted product expert.

Key Responsibilities //

Guest Experience & Relationship Building

• Deliver a welcoming, high-energy guest experience by proactively greeting and engaging every guest who enters the store.
• Build genuine connections with guests by initiating friendly conversations and discovering their interests, activities, and goals.
• Utilize superior active listening skills to fully understand guest needs before recommending products.
• Provide personalized gear and apparel recommendations that enhance guests’ outdoor experiences.
• Create a relaxed and approachable environment where guests feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new gear.
• Assisting in key opporational tasks that support shop workflow and efficiency.

Product Knowledge & Expertise

• Develop and maintain strong knowledge of outdoor apparel, footwear, gear, and accessories carried by the store.
• Stay informed about technical product features, materials, performance benefits, and proper usage.
• Translate technical product information into clear, helpful guidance for guests.
• Share personal outdoor experiences when relevant to help guests better understand product applications.

Sales & Outfitting

• Guide guests through the complete outfitting process, ensuring they leave with the gear that best fits their needs.
• Confidently recommend complementary items and accessories to enhance guest purchases.
• Maintain focus on guest needs first, understanding that great service naturally drives sales.

Store Presentation & Operations

• Assist with merchandising, restocking, and maintaining visually appealing product displays.
• Ensure the sales floor remains clean, organized, and fully stocked.
• Support daily store operations including opening/closing duties, inventory tasks, and register transactions.
• Work collaboratively with the team to maintain a positive, energetic store culture.

Qualifications

Required //

• Must be 18 or older.
• Must be a high school graduate with a diploma or GED.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to comfortably approach and engage strangers in friendly conversation.
• Natural curiosity and enthusiasm for helping people.
• Ability to listen carefully and tailor recommendations to each guest’s needs.
• Willingness to learn technical product knowledge.

Preferred

• Passion for outdoor recreation such as hiking, climbing, camping, running, paddling, skiing, or similar activities.
• Retail, hospitality, or customer service experience.
• Interest in outdoor gear, apparel, and active lifestyles.

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
