What are the responsibilities and job description for the Success Coach position at Mountain Community Online School?
We’re hiring the most important person in our new school.
Mountain Community Online School (MCOS) opens this fall as a statewide public charter program serving grades 4–8 across North Carolina, and we’re looking for our first-ever Success Coach.
This isn’t a tutor. It isn’t a customer service rep for an online platform.
The Success Coach is the trusted adult every remote student deserves. You’re the first call when something goes wrong, the first person to notice when a kid starts to slip, and the heart of a project-based learning culture that makes MCOS different from every other online school in the state.
What this role looks like:
- A caseload of 125 students across grades 4–8, with weekly touchpoints for every single one
- Daily family outreach that is personal and specific, not scripted
- Facilitation and evaluation of our Climb Higher Projects, a quarterly hands-on learning experience that anchors our school culture
- Monitoring engagement, flagging early warning signs, and building intervention plans before small problems become big ones
- Leading weekly community gatherings and at least one student club
You’re right for this role if you:
- Build trust fast, especially with families who are skeptical of online school
- Stay organized across a high volume of relationships without being reminded
- See structure as something you build, not something you wait for
- Give honest, specific feedback instead of vague encouragement
The details:
- Fully remote with occasional travel
- $42,000 to $47,000 commensurate with experience
- Health and retirement benefits consistent with our compensation framework
- Start date no later than August 3, 2026
- Priority consideration for applications received by June 20
MCOS is operated by The Mountain Community School in Hendersonville, NC. We believe every remote learner deserves a rigorous curriculum, real learning experiences, and a person in their corner.
If that’s you, we’d love to hear from you.
Apply by sending a resume, cover letter, and three references to mcos-director@mcscharter.org with the subject line: MCOS Success Coach Application.
