School Bus Driver

Overview
We are a small charter school in downtown Asheville seeking a dedicated and responsible Bus Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate the bus according to established routes and schedules.
• Ensure the safety of all passengers during transit, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
• Communicate effectively with passengers, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
• Manage behavior on the bus, implementing strategies to maintain a calm and respectful atmosphere.
• Educate passengers about safety procedures and proper bus etiquette.
• Assist with loading and unloading of mobility aids for individuals with disabilities or special needs.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bus interior.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
• Ability to pass background and medical checks as mandated by local regulations.
• Candidates with an existing CDL are preferred, however we offer paid training for the right candidate.
• Air brake endorsement is required.

Details

• Bus driver position is approximately 10-20 hours per week. The morning route runs from 6:45am to 8am. The afternoon route runs from 2:45pm to 4:15pm Monday through Thursday, and 12:45pm to 2pm on Fridays.
• We can offer a position that either drives both the morning and afternoon routes, or a position that just drives the afternoon route.
• Drivers must first take a 3 day virtual class, then apply for their CDL learners permit, then take a 3 day school bus class that ends in a behind the wheel exam in order to obtain the proper license to driver a school bus.
• Driver is eligible for a signing bonus after 60 days of employment.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 15.0 per week
