The Education Director serves as the instructional leader of Mountain City Public Montessori, guiding a high-quality Montessori and standards-aligned academic program. This role supports instructional quality, educator growth, and the thoughtful use of data to strengthen student learning.
Working within a shared, participatory leadership model, the Education Director partners with staff and the Board to steward the school’s educational vision while supporting educators in continuously developing their practice through coaching, collaboration, and reflection.
This role is deeply focused on helping educators do their best work with children and contributing to a strong, connected school community.
Reports to: Board of Directors
Supervises: Lead Guides, Assistant Guides, Creative Expression Teachers, Montessori Teaching & Learning Coordinator
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership
Support high-quality Montessori and standards-aligned instruction across the school
Provide coaching, observation, and feedback to support educator growth
Partner with educators to strengthen instructional practices and academic programming
Academic Strategy & Data
Lead school improvement planning and academic strategy
Support the use of academic and assessment data to inform decisions
Provide oversight of the school’s MTSS framework for academic support
Assessment & Accountability
Oversee schoolwide testing systems and processes
Ensure alignment with North Carolina academic and testing expectations
Staff Growth & Support
Lead educator evaluation, professional development, and licensure support
Supervise and support education staff, including hiring and performance development
Foster a culture of continuous learning, reflection, and growth
Family & Community Engagement
Partner with Guides and families to support student learning
Help families understand Montessori philosophy, instruction, and assessment practices
Culture & Collaborative Leadership
Contribute to and help steward the school’s participatory leadership model
Support collaborative decision-making and shared ownership of the academic program
Promote a culture grounded in Montessori values, equity, and respect
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience
Experience supporting or coaching educators
Understanding of Montessori philosophy and its alignment with academic standards
Experience with data-informed instruction and student support systems (MTSS)
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred
Master’s degree in education or leadership
Experience in a school leadership or instructional coaching role
North Carolina licensure (or ability to obtain)
Experience in a public Montessori setting
Experience supervising educators
Salary : $60,000 - $78,000
