POSITION SUMMARY

The Ski Patrol Manager is the individual responsible for the daily operations and management of Ski Patrol and the NSP operations at Lee Canyon.  This position will be responsible for overseeing the processes of interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of the Ski Patrol and NSP staff, including overseeing all required certifications, re-certifications, refreshers, and other trainings associated with Ski Patrol and NSP work.  The Ski Patrol Manager must be qualified and capable of completing all the job duties of those employees who report directly or indirectly to the Ski Patrol Manager, as well as job tasks and functions specific to the Ski Patrol Manager role itself.     

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- At all times act in a manner that serves to protect and preserve the safety of the employees and guests of Lee Canyon.

- Supervise and manage the different levels of employees who report to the Ski Patrol Manager, to ensure they are completing assigned job functions, duties, and tasks.

- Supervise and be accountable for the interviewing, hiring, training, and scheduling of Ski Patrol and NSP staff to ensure proper staffing levels for business and budget compliance.

- Oversee budget planning, use, and purchase of supplies and materials for operational needs.  Work with the Risk Manager to develop future operating and capital budget item requests.

- The Ski Patrol Manager will be responsible for knowing the department budget items and constraints and will be responsible for operating the department within the budgetary constraints from a supply and labor standpoint.  Any deviation in excess of the department budget must be approved by the Risk Manager.

- Administer and enforce applicable mountain and area rules and policies.

- Oversee the completion of all necessary pre-season setup, in season maintenance, and post season tear-down of mountain and trails, as well as building supplies and areas needed for the operation of the ski area, including all facilities used by Ski Patrol and NSP.

- Oversee and ensure completion of all patient care records and files.  Ensure completion and proper documentation and photos of incidents resulting in accident investigations.

- Liaison between Lee Canyon, the National Ski Patrol, EMS agencies, Paramedics and Hospitals to ensure proper handling of patients and patient transfers to other providers in the EMS system.

- Maintain and keep incident rates and accident investigation files, maintain training and equipment for lift evacuation and low-angle rescue.  

- Prepare, revise and distribute Ski Patrol and NSP policies, procedures and manuals, to ensure through supervision of staff, the proper and adequate dissemination of information.

- The Ski Patrol Manager is a dynamic job at a mountain resort.  There are many emergency response and operational tasks that develop or change as the operation of the ski area continues. As such, the Ski Patrol Manager will be required to act and perform in a number of ways in accordance with their training and/or experience.   

- Other duties as assigned by the Risk Manager   

Possess a strong intermediate skiing or snowboarding skill level and be reasonably physically fit and able to perform patrol duties in a high alpine environment with unpredictable and adverse weather conditions.

 

Strict adherence to all State and Federal employment laws, Company policies and Safety Standards.

Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

The preferred candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong leadership and teamwork record of accelerated supervisory responsibility throughout their snow industry career & possess a minimum of (2) years previous patrolling experience in a similar setting.        

                   

 MUST POSSESS: OEC, EMT, 80 hour WFR or WEMT certification to be considered. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50lbs and carry 50 yards. 
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for up to 8 hours.
  • Must be able to work outside in temperature below 32 degrees for up to 8 hours.
  • Ski Experience and Ability:  Must have at least intermediate skiing or snowboarding ability.
