Position Summary

Sandia Peak Ski Area is seeking a dependable, hands-on Facility Maintenance employee to support the daily maintenance and operation of the ski area and its facilities. This position is responsible for a variety of maintenance, construction, grounds, parking, snow removal, and general facility-support duties.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable working outdoors in mountain weather conditions, able to operate equipment safely, and willing to perform a wide range of tasks necessary to keep the ski area safe, clean, accessible, and operational.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform general building and facility maintenance and repairs.

• Assist with basic construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical maintenance tasks.

• Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance on buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities.

• Operate vehicles, trucks, utility vehicles, tractors, and other equipment as assigned.

• Perform snow removal operations, including plowing parking areas, roadways, walkways, and other access areas.

• Shovel and clear snow from building entrances, walkways, stairs, decks, and other areas as needed.

• Assist with parking lot maintenance, traffic control, and parking vehicles during busy periods and special events.

• Assist with basic utilities and facility systems, including water, wastewater, heating, and other building systems.

• Assist with seasonal opening, closing, and preparation of facilities.

• Perform grounds maintenance, including weed removal, debris removal, cleanup, and general property maintenance.

• Assist with trash removal and maintaining clean and orderly work areas.

• Support lift operations, mountain operations, and other departments when needed.

• Assist with special events and operational activities at the ski area.

• Respond to facility maintenance issues and assist with emergency repairs when necessary.

• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in safe operating condition.

• Follow all Sandia Peak Ski Area safety policies, procedures, and operating practices.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

• Basic knowledge and practical skills in construction, building maintenance, and general repairs.

• Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment.

• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in cold, snow, wind, heat, and other changing mountain weather conditions.

• Ability to lift, carry, shovel, push, pull, and handle materials and equipment as required.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Dependable attendance and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and during winter weather events as operational needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.

• Previous experience with snowplowing and snow removal.

• Experience operating tractors, loaders, plow trucks, UTVs, or similar equipment.

• Construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or facilities-maintenance experience.

• Previous ski area, resort, mountain operations, or outdoor facility experience.

• Experience working with basic water, wastewater, or utility systems.

• Welding or fabrication experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to:

• Work outdoors in winter and summer mountain conditions.

• Safely operate snow removal and maintenance equipment.

• Shovel snow and perform repetitive physical work.

• Lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment.

• Climb stairs, ladders, and work on uneven terrain.

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and work for extended periods.

• Respond to maintenance and operational needs throughout the ski area.

Work Environment

Work is performed throughout the Sandia Peak Ski Area property, including buildings, parking areas, roads, maintenance areas, and outdoor mountain terrain. Employees should expect exposure to snow, ice, cold temperatures, wind, precipitation, dust, mud, and other changing mountain conditions.

Additional Information

This is a hands-on position where no two days are necessarily the same. The Facility Maintenance employee plays an important role in keeping Sandia Peak Ski Area facilities, parking areas, roads, equipment, and guest-access areas safe, functional, and ready for daily operations.
