BUSINESS COACHING SPECIALIST
Full-Time position based out of the Mountain BizWorks Asheville office
Purpose
The Business Coaching Specialist (BCS) plays a key role in the design, delivery, and optimization of Mountain BizWorks’ business coaching program. This includes guiding entrepreneurs through the intake process, facilitating strategic coach-client matches, supporting scholarship utilization, and maintaining operational continuity across the Coaching and Learning departments.
In addition, the BCS leads the ongoing refinement of MBW’s digital intake systems to ensure clear, user-friendly pathways into services. This role blends relationship-based client work with consistent program operations and systems design. It is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of coaching coordination, client engagement, and strategic implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
Guide coaching and loan-ready clients through the intake experience:
Contact clients completing the Coaching/Loan Interest Form or referred via internal triage within two business days.
Conduct structured intake assessments to understand each client’s business model, stage, financial goals, and coaching needs.
Pathway clients to the most appropriate business resource:
Coaching
Classes or cohort-based training
Lender connection
Coordinate and support the coaching program:
Make informed and personalized client-coach matches based on goals and sector alignment.
Provide consistent support to both clients and coaches throughout the engagement.
Monitor and document coaching hours, scholarship utilization, and program milestones.
Ensure smooth operations of coaching project setup, reassignment, and closeout.
Track client conversion and program engagement across services:
Monitor the movement of assigned clients from intake through coaching, training, and lending.
Follow up on client progress and close service loops.
Collaborate with coaches and lending staff to maximize client readiness and conversion.
Design and maintain MBW’s digital intake systems:
Lead the design, testing, and maintenance of digital intake forms that support clear, client-friendly applications.
Implement smart routing logic to reduce intake bottlenecks and improve internal triage.
Document intake workflows and maintain intake SOPs.
Execute essential coaching program operations:
Perform recurring daily, weekly, and monthly administrative tasks required to sustain the coaching and learning departments.
Session approvals
Coaching hours and scholarship tracking per client/project
Coach matching
Intake form reviews and CRM updates (Salesforce)
Be cross-trained in key internal systems to provide operational continuity during staff transitions or peak volume.
Monitor intake reports, scholarship trackers, and client engagement metrics.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist in the marketing and outreach of the Business Coaching program
Represent MBW at partner events, info sessions, and small business community gatherings
Develop and maintain referral relationships with ecosystem partners
Share client success stories with the Communications team
Be an active and supporting member of the Learning team
Collaborate with team members and across departments to advance team and organizational goals and strategy
Qualifications and Experience
Commitment to Mountain BizWorks’ vision, mission, and values
Must live in Western North Carolina, or be willing to relocate here
2 years of experience working in small business development, coaching, lending, or program coordination OR experience owning/operating a business
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, public administration, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of experience and education
Demonstrated experience in managing workflows, updating databases (e.g., Salesforce), tracking deliverables, and executing routine operations consistently.
Deep familiarity with small business development; ability to assess small business needs and connect to appropriate services
Strong communication and relationship management skills
Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency- strongly preferred but not required; ability to support Spanish-speaking clients or help translate program communications is a plus.
Other (Supervisory Responsibilities, Schedule, Travel)
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Normal business hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm with opportunities for flexibility; however, this position may require some weekend and/or evening work to accommodate the services offered by Mountain BizWorks.

Location: This position has flexibility to be based out of our fixed offices or to use a hybrid approach.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Anticipated starting salary range of $55,000- 65,000 with the opportunity for a higher base salary depending on skills and experience.
