Staff Pharmacist

Pharmacy Hours 8-6 Monday-Friday and 8:30-11:30 Saturday

Position is 15-20 hours/week

Job Purpose:

To work as a member of the health care team providing pharmaceutical services to health center patients, physicians, staff and to provide work direction to pharmacy technicians in the absence of the Pharmacist in Charge.

Primary Duties:

· Supervise all personnel in the pharmacy when the chief pharmacist is absent. Compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations and the company policies and procedures.

· Evaluates prescriptions for completeness, accuracy and legality. Selects generic products in accordance with applicable law. Maintains optimum formulary compliance. Audits each prescription for proper content and labeling. Ensure correct pricing of all prescriptions.

· Maintains adequate patient information to ensure safety and appropriateness of prescriptions.

· Provides patient counseling including observance of OBRA guidelines, proper dosing, adverse effects, drug interactions, drug storage, therapeutic duplications, allergies, compliance and drug utilization review. Provides professional drug information and assistance to patients and medical staff.

· Completes ordering to maintain proper levels of inventory, monitors inventory, rotates stock and utilizes routine overstock returns as well as processing outdated returns. Maintains C-II ordering records along with C-II perpetual inventory log as well as fills all C-II prescriptions.

· Oversee the adherence to third party claims procedures.

· Balances cash registers, prepares bank deposits and change orders as necessary.

· Aids in training pharmacy technicians, provides feedback on their performance and amplifies their professional understanding of their role in pharmacy.

· Takes new prescriptions over the phone

· Assists technicians with answering phones and assisting customers at the point of sale when needed

· Maintains strictest confidentiality

· Attend mandatory meetings

· Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· Graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy recognized by the appropriate state board of pharmacy (BS or Pharm D)

· Current License/Certificate to practice in the state in which the pharmacy is located.

· Two (2) years’ experience preferred

· Good oral and written communication skills

· Ability to function as a member of the pharmacy team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must have the knowledge of pharmacology principles including practices, techniques and safety standards for developing compounded pharmaceutical substances. Possess the ability to recognize a potential pharmaceutical problem and advise physician. Thorough knowledge of prescription and over-the-counter medications in order to advise patients on the measurement and timing of dosages, use of multiple medications and potential side effects. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in preparing records, writing reports and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative and judgment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with pharmacy team members, patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply written guidelines. Ability to establish quality control standards. Ability to communicate clearly.

Physical Requirements and Demands:

Frequent standing or walking for extended periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Required eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity and the ability to read and note appropriate measurements. Requires typing ability of 35 wpm. Requires ability to work in stressful situations or work irregular hours. Requires exposure to toxic substances.

Work Environment:

This position is in a health care setting therefore frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a pharmacy/health clinic environment is possible.

Working Hours:

Working hours are established to meet the needs of our pharmacy. These hours are subject to change to meet the needs of our business.

Individual employee work hours will be scheduled by your supervisor. It is expected that an employee of each functional area of the practice will remain on the job while patients are being attended.

Time worked will be documented daily by each employee using a time record system determined by the chief pharmacist. These records will serve as the “permanent record” of the employee’s time worked and will be used for pay purposes as well as for monitoring earned paid time off
