Position Overview:
The Social Work Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented work study student to build the organizational capacity of Mount St Joseph University by developing sustainable programs and systems that address community needs. This includes expanding outreach efforts, increasing volunteer engagement, and strengthening partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders. The project aims to enhance MSJ’s ability to serve the community effectively by improving internal processes and ensuring long-term sustainability. Ultimately, the student employee will empower MSJ to have a lasting, positive impact on individuals and families in the community while breaking the cycle of poverty by helping more low-income students access a college pathway.

Key Responsibilities:

Objective of the Assignment

This project will alleviate poverty and support low-income communities by providing essential resources, education, and skills that empower individuals and families to overcome barriers to success

 

  • Create Advocacy Toolkits- Develop resource toolkits that include tips, guides, and templates for parents to use when advocating for their children's needs in educational, healthcare, and social service settings.
  • Explore opportunities to implement strategies focused on fostering a community of parents (The Parenting Academy participants) who can connect, share experiences, and offer mutual support. Provide resources for parents to understand and manage mental health, counseling resources, stress management techniques, and tools to help families cope with challenges related to poverty.
  • Develop and distribute mental health resource toolkits, including contact information for local services and tips on how to recognize and address mental health challenges.

 

Objective of the Assignment: Build and strengthen partnerships with local organizations, schools, and government agencies to expand the reach and sustainability of the Parenting Academy and other support services for low-income families.

 

  • Research and provide outreach to local schools, community centers, government agencies, and businesses that align with the program's mission to form potential partnerships.
  • Research existing resources offered within the community to identify any potential gaps in supports offered to students and/or parents.
  • Promote opportunities for community members to support the continuation of The Parenting Academy and other MSJ programs.

Objective of the Assignment: Create and implement sustainable solutions for program management at MSJ.

  • Develop a system to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Parenting Academy and other programs at MSJ.
  • Collect data and feedback from stakeholders to assess program efficiency and identify methods for improvement.
  • Compile evaluation data into reports to share with stakeholders, funders, and partners, ensuring transparency and identifying areas for program improvement.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled at Mount St. Joseph University
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and basic graphic design software (e.g., Canva) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interest in social work and community engagement is preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
