Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Assistant Superintendent of Parks located in Los Angeles, CA 90068. The Assistant Superintendent will oversee the daily operational management of memorial parks, including landscaping, grounds maintenance, and ensuring the parks remain serene, respectful, and well-maintained spaces. Responsibilities include coordinating schedules, supervising maintenance teams, monitoring quality standards, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The role will also involve maintaining facilities, collaborating with vendors, and addressing maintenance issues promptly to provide a peaceful environment for visitors. Assist in management of park operations, including grounds maintenance, landscaping and some coordination of construction and planning efforts. Must have a strong knowledge of plant materials, and groundskeeping operations to effectively assist in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the park as well as supervising and managing a large crew including two foremen. Will keep accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as directed by the Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, and horticultural care minimum 4 years
- Management and supervisory skills, including team leadership and task delegation 4 years
- Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to park and facility maintenance
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with staff, vendors, and the community
- Proficiency in using tools, equipment, and technology for park operations and training
- Relevant certifications or educational background in park management, landscaping, or similar fields is a plus
- Assist the Superintendent in providing agronomic direction for the healthy growth of all grasses, trees, and other plant materials on grounds.
- Support the Superintendent in overseeing the crew, including scheduling and assigning tasks as directed.
- Participate in regular meetings with management and staff to review operations, maintenance, and address safety and environmental concerns.
- Training, motivating and supervising staff capable of performing the tasks associated with maintaining the park
- Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills are needed
- Maintain a positive, safe, respectful working environment which will follow all city, county, and state regulations
- Assists in staff management and evaluation, employee safety and employee counseling
- Self-starter who leads by example
- Has strong organizational skills and an eye for detail
- Irrigation operation, troubleshooting, and supervision of repairs of all components of the irrigation system
- Coordinate the application and documentation of chemical treatments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversee safe operations, proper maintenance, and care of all equipment required for the maintenance of the park and facility
- Ensuring proper use, cleanliness, and security of maintenance facilities and equipment
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
· Valid California Driver’s License
· Bilingual - English/Spanish
· Experience with Toro irrigation operating system preferred
· Must have or be able to attain California QAL/QAC within 180-days of employment
· Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
