Job Description Summary
Position Responsibilities:
- Communicates and follows through on pending orders. Generates work lists and addresses pending items.
- Performs, compiles and documents Quality Control. Reports significant deviations to the manager. Documents corrective action.
- Organizes work to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Determines specimen acceptability and priority, taking action accordingly.
- Maintains a minimum inventory of supplies/reagents to ensure adequate patient care and sufficient supplies for the oncoming shift.
- Recognizes and take appropriate corrective action when equipment failure occurs. Notifies appropriate nursing unit/physician if a delay is expected and reporting results.
- Addresses instrument flags prior to release of patient results.
- Call and document critical values.
- Demonstrates willingness to provide assistance to co-workers and work alternative shifts/hours as needed or requested.
- Teach and train stuff or students as assigned.
- Demonstrates the ability and willingness to assess situation and determines appropriate course of action (cover the accessioning area if the need arises, answering the phone, etc.).
- Communicates and documents any unusual occurrences or deviation from routine operations in the communication log or to the supervisor/manager.
- Able to successfully adjust and adapt to changing circumstances; manages competing demands; changes approach or methods to best fit situations.
- Cleans and decontaminates workstation, disposing of specimens, reagents, and confidential information as appropriate.
- License/Registration/Certification: Licensed by the State of Florida (or eligible) in appropriate specialties - national certification preferred.
- Education: Commensurate with licensure requirements.
- Experience: 3-5 years in specialty.
