Job Title: Social Worker / Research - Obstetrics And Gynecology Administration - Mount Sinai West - Full Time - Day


 

The Bridge Clinical Program focuses on improving the health outcomes of women with substance use disorders. As the program is in early development, the role of the Social Worker in this new grant-funded position will be multifaceted and play a pivotal role in addressing substance use among a vulnerable population, fostering community relations, and providing direct support to a limited number of women, including those who are pregnant or parenting individuals as well as gynecological patients, who use drugs. This position requires a blend of advocacy, community development, clinical expertise, research, administrative skills, and ability to work independently. The program will be additionally supported by a peer recovery specialist who will collaborate closely with the social worker. Current funding for this position is for two years with the possibility of continuation through additional grants. 


Responsibilities

The social worker in this position will provide inpatient and outpatient services with medical providers to ensure integrated care to a limited number of women, including pregnant and parenting individuals who use drugs. The social worker will be responsible for discharge planning at the time of delivery for postpartum patients with substance use disorders, coordinating with medical providers for a smooth transition to outpatient care. They will provide continuity of care from prenatal care through postpartum period, including evaluation for postpartum mental health disorders and recovery services. Individual therapy may extend to short-term mental health counseling and ancillary to the patient’s medical management including ongoing review of mental health with the program’s liaison psychiatrist. The social worker will conduct detailed alcohol and drug assessment to determine immediate and long-term service needs.

 

The social worker will have programmatic development responsibilities within The Bridge Program as well. They will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relations with community organizations, stakeholders, and referral sources to ensure seamless services delivery and collaboration. The social worker will create/distribute education materials, manage social media, and design and conduct training programs for professionals working with pregnant and parenting individuals who use drugs. The social worker will also assist with developing, implementing, and/or updating program policies and procedures to improve service delivery and compliance.

 

In their Research role, the social worker will assist with grant preparation, grant writing, and grant management. The social worker will assist with identifying research opportunities as well as writing and submitting grant proposals to secure funding for Bridge programming and services. The social worker will monitor and manage grant deliverable deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Data collection and assistance with data analysis may also be a part of this role. Assistance with manuscript writing may be an additional expectation as research is completed. 

This position is 1.0 FTE with working days Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm. 

 


Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using social medical platforms for outreach and advocacy. 
  • Formal research experience is required for this position.
  • Grant writing/management experience is required for this position.
  • Perinatal Mental Health certification required.
  • Experience, or significant interest, in policy advocacy, community organizing, and public speaking
  • LCSW required.
  • Minimum of one year in current position.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $39.4006 - $50.7661 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
