Description

Responsible for the operation, management, and leadership of the Sterile Processing Department, and providing clinical participation in Materials Management processes. Establishes standards of decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization, storage and distribution, in partnership with practices throughout the hospital, and providing related consultation services for hospital departments, physicians, community providers and area hospitals.


Responsibilities
  1. Oversees operation of Sterile Processing (SPD). Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining work flow systems, supply cart management systems, computerization systems, inventory control system and parameters.   
  2. Coordinates and communicates with Director of SPD and hospital departments to ensure that the supplies processed and the services rendered satisfy professional, ethical and legal standards. Communicates with doctors, salesmen and other departments in order to maintain an effective and efficient operation. Develops long-term goals for department.    
  3. Develops, implements, updates and directs maintenance of departmental policies and procedures based upon recommendations of supervisory personnel works with ancillary departments and physicians in developing new procedures. Attends committee meetings and make recommendations regarding Medical Center-wide policies and procedures.               
  4. Establishes and ensures maintenance of standards concerning decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment.       
  5. Establishes standards for quality control and infection control within the department and continually evaluates standards for revision and updating as necessary.       
  6. Directs preparation and maintenance of departmental records and reports to be used for reference and analysis purposes.         
  7. Ensures proper operation and maintenance of departmental equipment and arranges for repair of replacement as necessary.     
  8. Works closely with departments utilizing supplies and services in order to determine and evaluate need for new equipment, supplies or services.        
  9. Initiates, develops and implements continuing education, orientation, training and development programs for SPD staff. Reviews job descriptions, training programs, procedures and rules and regulations to determine their soundness and adequacy.       
  10. Working through subordinate supervisory personnel, appraises, evaluates and counsels employees about job performance, conduct and attendance.     
  11. Provides direct supervision of day-to-day activities of SPD supervisors. Sets schedules, deadline and assigns work      
  12. Reviews and assists in the updating of departmental policies and procedures as necessary and required.     
  13. Performs inspection to ensure that department quantity and quality standards are being met within SPD itself, as well as in the areas the department services.     
  14. Maintains statistical records for department, e.g., time studies, equipment downtime. equipment production, laboratory reports and overall productivity. 
  15. Establishes quality control program for department to ensure best possible patient care. Established recall guidelines for contaminated supplies and equipment.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree required and Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
  • 2-5 years management experience in a central sterile supply environment
  • CRSCT Certification

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $78884 - $118326 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
