Research Laboratory Manager - Windreich Department of AI & Human Health

Mount Sinai Health System
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 9/13/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/11/2025
Description

The Glicksberg Lab builds AI systems that learn from real-world patient data to advance personalized medicine. Our team develops and evaluates methods in representation learning, generative AI, and graph models across diverse multimodal and multi-omic sources—including electronic health records and clinical notes, labs and genomics, physiological waveforms, medical imaging, and video. Applications span risk prediction and early detection, automated phenotyping, treatment effect modeling, and drug or target discovery.

Our work is translational: we collaborate closely with clinicians, validate models rigorously (retrospective → prospective), and emphasize reliability, fairness, robustness, and reproducibility. Team members develop robust data pipelines, analyze large cohorts, and help turn state-of-the-art machine learning into tools that improve patient care.

The Research Laboratory Manager provides operational oversight of the assigned basic science research laboratory. S/he ensures the environment and equipment are safe, compliant and effective. Manages all equipment, shared across areas or in a single area, including microscopes, cell sorters, mass spectrometry units, etc. Ensures all equipment is well maintained, with development and implementation of systems designed for tracking maintenance, and training staff in proper usage. This individual acts as liaison to other Mount Sinai departments, including Facilities, Engineering and Bio/Radiation Safety. Produces summary reports and databases that reflect inventory of all faculty, staff and equipment in the laboratory.

Responsibilities

The Operations Manager will report directly to Dr. Benjamin Glicksberg and work closely with lab members, collaborators, and institutional partners. This role will be central to ensuring the efficient day-to-day functioning of the lab and supporting its long-term growth. The Operations Manager will provide administrative, operational, and project coordination support to enable cutting-edge AI research and its translation into clinical practice.

  • Administrative & Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations of the lab, including budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and policy implementation.
  • Project Coordination: Support ongoing research projects by managing timelines, tracking deliverables, and coordinating across collaborators and institutional departments.
  • Research Support: Assist with IRB submissions, regulatory compliance, and documentation related to data use, clinical research, and grant-funded studies.
  • Team Support: Help recruit, onboard, and supervise staff, postdocs, and students; maintain effective communication and workflow within the lab.
  • Process Development: Establish and refine lab procedures for data management, compliance, and collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison between the lab, Mount Sinai administration, clinical collaborators, and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in biology, chemistry or animal science, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in research operations, project management, or administrative roles in healthcare, academia, or life sciences.
  • Familiarity with biomedical research operations, clinical research processes, or data-intensive projects strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
