Job Title: Paramedic - Various Shifts ( Part Time, Full Time)
Job Summary
Receives emergency calls from dispatcher and promptly, safely responds to assignments. Ensures the safety of the patient and other personnel at all times
Roles & Responsibilities
- Takes histories and performs physical exams as indicated on patients in the field
- Initiates indicated treatment modalities according to written policies and medical control physician orders
- Supervises all persons on the scene involved with patient care within the scope of protocol
- Becomes the triage officer at mass casualty incidents until relieved by superiors
- Accompanies the patient to the ED and monitors and treats the patient during transportation
- Transports the patient to the appropriate emergency department and reports orally to the nurse and/or physician
- Writes a comprehensive report documenting the situation at the scene, physical exam, orders received, treatments rendered, response to these treatments, and other information deemed pertinent
- Maintains ambulance logs and submits detailed incident, accident, occurrence reports and statements when required
- Operates the vehicle in a safe manner at all times
- Maintains ambulances and other emergency vehicles and equipment in efficient working order, makes minor repairs and replacements when necessary, and cleans and restocks the equipment and vehicles
- Reports any obvious mechanical malfunctions or deficiencies to the supervisor immediately verbally and/or in writing
- Communicates with patient’s family and friends at the scene
- Communicates with other health team members in the community and at the hospital
- Assists with triage and other prehospital duties
- Performs EKG’s in the ED as well as on the ambulance
- Performs paramedic level skills in the ED with the exception of drug administration
- Paramedics are responsible for IV drip maintenance for those medications noted in their protocols
- Charts findings of physical exam, history, and treatments rendered on the ED chart
- Performs heavy and awkward lofting of patients in difficult areas and terrain
