The Call:

The role of Campus Pastor (CP) is to oversee the life and ministry of the Alma Campus under the direction and leadership of the Lead Pastor (LP).  This requires a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of Community Church and the ability to align staff and key leadership teams with its mission, vision, and values.  The CP will offer pastoral leadership to the campus and ensure the systems, practices and policies of the church responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities.


The Campus Pastor will be responsible for:


1.  Modeling Biblical Priorities

As a member of the Community Church staff, each employee is expected to lead by example in spiritual maturity, character, and lifestyle.  Staff members are called to model a life of personal discipleship and to reflect the heart of Jesus in their relationships, leadership, and daily choices.  These objectives are accomplished by:

  • Committing to a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ through regular time in scripture, prayer, and worship.
  • Actively participating in the life and mission of Community Church through groups and volunteer teams.
  • Demonstrating a contagious passion for reaching people far from God both locally and globally, and inviting them into a disciple-making process of spiritual growth, connectedness, and maturity. 
  • Championing unity across all ministries and teams, avoiding gossip, and responding to challenges with a spirit of humility, grace, and reconciliation.
  • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of Community Church employees as defined in the Staff Handbook.

2.  Strategic Leadership and Planning

Responsible for championing Community Church’s mission, vision and values at the campus location.  The CP will assist the LP and Executive Team in strategic planning and staff coordination in the execution of the church’s mission and vision.  The CP will lead the campus towards accomplishing goals and action plans established by the CP and Executive Team.  This leadership and input will be provided by activities including:

  • Implementing an intentional staff meetings strategy to clarify and execute the goals and objectives of Community Church at the Alma Campus.
  • Monitoring and reporting the pulse of the congregation through research and evaluation of attendance, giving, groups participation, baptisms, volunteer engagement, community impact, etc.
  • Work with the Executive Pastor (XP) to ensure staffing, facilities, and programs are effectively aligned to best meet the strategic goals of Community Church.
  • Manage campus budget and provide campus-level oversight to the financial functions of the church including: generosity initiatives, cash flow, contributions, management of expenses, and budget development.

3.  Core Competencies

Responsible for the care and engagement of the congregation at the local campus.  The CP demonstrates a high level of relational quality that allows them to connect with and care for the congregation.  The CP is able to communicate vision and bring the DNA of Community Church to bear in the campus environment.  These objectives are accomplished by:

  • Develop strong relational connections with congregants of diverse ages, backgrounds, stages of life, and experiences in order to help them connect to the greater life of the church.
  • Effectively communicate and champion the mission, values and DNA of Community Church both in a variety of environments (public, platform, small group, individual)
  • Provide leadership (direct or delegated) to the execution of the weekend worship experiences and weekly ministry including groups, local missions, student ministry, etc
  • Fulfill other pastoral duties (weddings, funerals, baptisms, child dedication, counseling, visitation, etc) or other tasks which may not be considered in other areas of the job description.

4.  Leader Recruitment and Development

Responsible for building healthy, capable teams by identifying, equipping, and empowering both staff and volunteers.  The CP invests in the growth and development of existing staff in their areas of ministry and prioritizes future staffing needs.  This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Supervising the campus staff team as it relates to day-to-day ministry and operational activities.
  • Empowering staff and volunteer leaders to lead the ministries and operations of the campus.
  • Develop a leadership pipeline for recruiting, onboarding, and training volunteers in alignment with Community Church standards.
  • Provide coaching to the staff, in coordination with Ministry Directors, in the design and implementation of church ministries and programs.
  • Foster a culture that values spiritual growth, relational health, and competency development.

5.  Ministry Administration

Responsible for the intentional organization and faithful stewardship of campus resources both financial and physical.  CP is responsible for managing the administrative systems that support the local campus. Includes the following responsibilities:  

  • Develop and recommend a campus budget to the XP and Board of Trustees and manage the campus budget once approved.
  • Maintain familiarity with systems that support the operation of Community Church, including Church Community Builder, Planning Center Online, etc.
  • Ensure campus staff and volunteers adhere to systems of administration.

Accountability:

The Campus Pastor is accountable to the Lead Pastor and will receive an annual performance review.  Compensation is reviewed annually by the Board of Trustees.  


Qualifications:

  1. Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  2. Excellent people management skills both with staff and volunteers.
  3. Experience in ministry in a medium to large church setting.
  4. An engaging communicator with a strong biblical and theological background.
  5. A self-motivated leader possessing relational skills with staff, volunteers, and congregation.
  6. Proven track record of developing and multiplying leaders within a ministry context.
  7. Proficient with Google Workspace applications (Google Docs, Google Sheets)
  8. Proficient with database software (Community Church to provide training).
  9. Undergraduate degree preferred.
