Located in Yankton, South Dakota, Mount Marty seeks an outstanding scholar-educator to serve as a primary faculty anchor for theology within the Department of Theology & Philosophy. The successful candidate will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, a capacity to engage non-majors in the Catholic intellectual tradition, and an active program of scholarly research that enriches classroom instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in Catholic theology (including Introduction to Theology, Christian Ethics/Moral Theology, and
- Historical Theology) for both majors and general education students.
- Collaborate with Philosophy faculty and the Benedictine Leadership Institute (BLI) to teach integrated core curriculum courses examining the relationship between faith, reason, and human flourishing.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across academic departments to support mission integration across the curriculum.
- Maintain an active research agenda producing peer-reviewed scholarly contributions compatible with an undergraduate teaching institution.
- Provide academic advising, participate in departmental service, and contribute actively to the liturgical, intellectual, and communal life of the university.
Qualifications:
- Education: Ph.D., Th.D., or S.T.D. in Theology or a closely related field in hand by time of appointment. Specialization in Moral Theology or Systematic Theology preferred.
- Teaching Excellence: Demonstrated success or clear potential in undergraduate instruction, with a proven ability to make complex theological concepts accessible and compelling to a diverse student body.
- Mission Alignment: Practiced commitment to the Catholic intellectual tradition and a willingness to seek and maintain the mandatum from the Bishop of the Diocese of Sioux Falls pursuant to Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
- Benedictine Charism: Capacity to integrate Benedictine practices (hospitality, attentive listening, communal searching for truth, and the balance of work and prayer) into teaching and academic citizenship.
