TITLE: Maintenance Support
POSITION TYPE: Part-time, 24-29 hours per week
LOCATION: Mount Madonna Center - 445 Summit Road, Watsonville, CA 95076
RATE OF PAY: $17.00 to $24.00 per hour, depending on experience
REPORTS TO: Maintenance & Facilities Manager
WORK ARRANGEMENT: Daily Commute with the possibility of residency, details below
POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Team provides facility maintenance for retreat spaces, as well as residential and community buildings. The team is made up of experienced carpenters, builders, plumbers, electricians, masons, and vehicle mechanics, as well as volunteers who provide general maintenance support. We are currently looking to add a skilled team member with broad maintenance experience to serve within the unique context of a self-sufficient intentional community on 380 acres.
A typical workday can include a range of diverse tasks and assignments, the opportunity to learn new skills, and/or share and develop existing skills. The maintenance team collaborates on projects and individual members are often responsible for directing their own work. Somewhat flexible scheduling is possible, with the understanding that timely response to guest and resident needs is required. This position is geared toward dynamic, engaged, and flexible individuals who are willing to both learn and share their skills and experience.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist project leads as needed
- Installations, diagnostics, creative problem solving, and testing
- Repair and maintenance of a wide variety of systems including vehicle maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, and painting
- Landscaping and land stewardship upkeep as needed
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Safe operation of small to medium power tools
- Clear understanding of jobsite safety protocols
- Experience with main construction trades or general building maintenance a plus
- Plumbing experience a plus
- Clear and effective communication
- Physical Requirements:
- Reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds safely and without exertion
- Possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment
- Use protective hand and face coverings and/or masks throughout an entire shift
- Work with disinfectant cleaning supplies throughout an entire shift, including frequent hand washing with disinfecting soap
RESIDENCY DETAILS: This position may offer the opportunity to reside in a yoga community in beautiful natural surroundings. Residency includes housing, meals, and a modest monthly activity fee based on the total number of hours contributed. Those interested in joining our multigenerational residential community would be open to living in an intentional yoga community and engaging with others in a positive way. We ask everyone to abide by the vegetarian guidelines while on the property. More details about the potential for residency will be provided during the interview.
