Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church is a Christ-centered congregation located in the rural Mississippi Delta. Our church is rooted in biblical truth, worship, fellowship, and community service. We are seeking a spirit-led, talented, dependable, and experienced Minister of Music/Pianist who has a heart for worship and a desire to help strengthen and grow our music ministry.

The ideal candidate will be able to minister through a variety of gospel music styles, work effectively with singers of varying experience levels, teach vocal parts and three-part harmony, and help develop a vibrant music ministry that supports the overall mission and vision of Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church.

Position Summary

The Minister of Music/Pianist will provide musical leadership for Sunday worship services and other designated church programs. This individual will work collaboratively with the Pastor, church leadership, choir members, and other musicians to develop a worship experience that is spiritually uplifting, organized, and appropriate for the congregation.

The Minister of Music will also be responsible for helping develop the church's choir and music ministry through rehearsals, vocal instruction, song selection, and the teaching of three-part harmony (soprano, alto, and tenor).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide piano/keyboard accompaniment for Sunday worship services.
• Direct and/or provide musical leadership for the church choir.
• Conduct regular choir rehearsals.
• Teach choir members soprano, alto, and tenor parts and develop strong three-part harmony.
• Select and prepare appropriate music in collaboration with the Pastor and church leadership.
• Play and teach a variety of gospel music, including traditional gospel, hymns, contemporary gospel, praise and worship, and other appropriate Christian music.
• Help develop the musical and vocal abilities of choir members.
• Assist with developing youth and other music ministries as the church grows.
• Prepare music for special programs, revivals, anniversaries, funerals, and other church events as requested and mutually agreed upon.
• Maintain effective communication with the Pastor, choir members, musicians, and church leadership.
• Arrive prepared and on time for rehearsals, worship services, and scheduled programs.
• Promote a spirit of worship, cooperation, excellence, and Christian fellowship within the music ministry.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should:

• Be a Christian who demonstrates spiritual maturity and respect for the mission and ministry of the church.
• Have demonstrated experience playing the piano and/or keyboard in a church worship setting.
• Be proficient in multiple styles of gospel and church music.
• Be able to teach and direct three-part vocal harmony (soprano, alto, and tenor).
• Have experience working with church choirs, praise teams, or other vocal groups.
• Possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Be patient and capable of working with singers at different levels of musical experience.
• Be dependable, punctual, prepared, and committed to consistent attendance.
• Be willing to work collaboratively with the Pastor and church leadership.
• Be willing to submit to a background check as a condition of employment.
• Experience developing or growing a church music ministry is preferred.

Time Commitment & Compensation

This position will initially be part-time, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position as the church and music ministry grow.

The Minister of Music/Pianist will primarily be responsible for Sunday worship services, scheduled rehearsals, and designated special programs.

Compensation: Approximately $120–$350 per Sunday, based on experience, responsibilities, musical ability, and the needs of the church.

Additional compensation for special services or responsibilities may be discussed as appropriate.
