Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or health challenges. Duties
- Assists clients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities according to the individual service plan.
- Allows and encourages clients to do as much of their own care as possible.
- Prepares and serves nutritious meals to clients.
- Encourages clients to eat a proper diet and take adequate fluids while respecting the client's right to free choice. Records and reports changes in client's eating habits to the director.
- Initiates and participates in leisure activities and encourages clients to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs to develop friendships.
- Reports any changes in client's physical condition and/or behavior, and visitors; observes and reports the health and emotional condition of each client; and promptly reports all changes to the director.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the clients; performs general housekeeping; and follows cleaning schedules for client laundry, bedrooms, dining area, living space, bathrooms, kitchen, and other areas.
- Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to client requests for assistance.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care environments is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring.
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physical tasks required for patient transfers and mobility assistance.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, dementia (including Alzheimer's), or memory care needs.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate approach to caregiving and social work principles.
- Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, or overnight hours as needed.
