General Responsibilities
Custodian II is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the church buildings and surrounding grounds. This position involves performing routine custodial and general maintenance work. Employees will receive classroom and hands-on training in the proper use of cleaning tools, equipment, supplies, and safety procedures necessary for effective custodial work.
Essential Functions

- Secure the building daily.
- Empty trash receptacles and clean restrooms, hallways, classrooms, and the gymnasium.
- Clean church facilities, including fellowship halls, after events.
- Perform groundskeeping duties such as cutting and trimming grass and maintaining the HVAC system (e.g., replacing filters).
- Dust high and low surfaces, clean boards weekly, and empty trash cans.
- Clean restroom stalls and sinks; refill toilet paper, soap, and paper towel dispensers; sweep, mop, and wipe walls.
- Sweep, mop, buff, and strip floors as needed.
- Clean the fellowship hall and sanctuary, including sweeping, spot mopping, cleaning water fountains, and performing general cleaning tasks.
- Set up and take down chairs and tables for events; ensure all areas are clean afterward.
- Replace interior and exterior light bulbs as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Work approximately 20–25 hours per week.
- Prepare and submit a weekly status report.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in custodial and general maintenance of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associated and church staff; basic ability to read and write and speak/understand English.
Education and Experience
Required:
- GED or completion of some high school coursework.
Preferred:
- High School Diploma.
- Prior custodial and/or maintenance experience.
A comparable combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the stated minimum qualifications.
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 25.0 per week
