What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prep Baker position at Mount Bakery - Fairhaven?
Mount Bakery is seeking to hire an experienced prep baker as we head into our busier Spring and Summer seasons.
Part-time position with required workdays on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Additional hours may be available on Saturday or Wednesday based on production needs.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately measure and mix ingredients for doughs and fillings according to standardized recipes.
- Prepare cookie dough, including weighing, shaping, cutting, and packaging for freezing, ensuring proper stock rotation.
- Prepare shortbread cookie dough for cutting and storage.
- Produce various fillings, including cinnamon sugar, orange sugar, hazelnut twist, and almond log.
- Prepare pie dough, portioning to specified weights, wrapping, dating, and freezing.
- Prepare galette dough, scaling to weight and cutting to the correct size for refrigeration.
- Adhere to daily production schedules, ensuring accurate quantities of prep items are completed.
- Maintain strict adherence to exact measurements and timings in all preparations.
- Organize and maintain a clean and efficient workspace.
- Communicate effectively with other bakers regarding task completion and assistance needed. Utilize Slack for relevant communication.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of and enforce all kitchen hygiene and safety standards, including handwashing, glove usage, workstation cleaning, and proper food handling.
- Complete assigned daily cleaning tasks as per the cleaning checklist.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to read and accurately execute recipes.
- Ability to work independently and self-manage tasks effectively.
- Clear and professional communication skills with managers, baristas, bakers, and dishwashers.
- Physical capability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
- Willingness to follow instructions and seek clarification when necessary.
Requirements:
- Fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene practices.
- Valid Food Handler's Card (required).
- Consistent and punctual attendance is mandatory.
We sell our products in our two Mount Bakery cafes, at the Bellingham and Ballard Farmers' Markets, and via wholesale to a select group of local coffeeshops and cafes.

In addition to the hourly wage bakers receive tips in the range of $2 to $5 per hour depending on business volume.
