What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Aide position at Mount Alvernia Academy?
Mount Alvernia Academy, a nurturing and faith-centered Catholic, Franciscan coed school, is seeking a full-time, caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Preschool Aide to support our early childhood program for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience working with young children and a solid knowledge of early childhood development are recommended.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting the lead teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment rooted in Catholic values and traditions.
Monitoring students in a variety of settings (e.g., classroom, playground, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Support children with routines such as toileting, handwashing, snack, and transitions.
Help to maintain the classroom and equipment to provide a safe and clean learning environment.
Communicate professionally with teachers, staff, and parents as needed.
Participate in school events, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
Assist in preparing instructional materials for daily learning activities.
Engage with students in planned small group activities to support development and learning objectives.
Support a coordinated behavior management system in favor of excellent behavior management, and practice current social and emotional support techniques daily.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold the mission and values of the Catholic school community.
Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to ensure consistency and quality in early education.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience working with preschool or early childhood-aged children preferred
CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Must pass required background checks and comply with diocesan/school policies

Regular attendance is a necessary function. Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential for the supervision and instruction of the students. While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and/or crouch. The preschool aide is periodically required to stand while talking and listening. The preschool aide is occasionally required to sit, walk, and may be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
