Assistant Cheesemaker / Production Employee
MouCo Cheese Company is looking for a dedicated Assistant Cheesemaker / Production Employee to join our team. Join our small artisan cheesemaking team where quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail matter every day.
This is a hands-on, team-oriented role involved in all aspects of artisan cheesemaking, including cheese production, aging room care, cleaning and sanitation, packaging, quality control, and weekly milk pickup. Every day is different, and team members rotate between responsibilities to help build a well-trained, flexible production team.
This position is best suited for someone who is dependable, takes pride in doing things correctly, enjoys working with their hands, and is interested in learning how artisan cheese is made.
Important Requirement
This position includes driving our manual-transmission milk truck for local milk pickup, typically Monday mornings starting at 5:00 am, with occasional Tuesday pickups as needed. A valid driver’s license and manual transmission / stick shift experience are required. No CDL or special license is required.
Schedule & Hours
- 30–40 hours per week
- Primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed
- Typical production start time: 6:00–8:00 am
- Milk pickup starts at 5:00 am on most Mondays, with occasional Tuesday pickups as needed
- End time: 11:00 am–3:00 pm, depending on production needs
Job Expectations
- High attention to detail and ability to follow strict production, sanitation, and food-safety standards
- Self-motivated, dependable, and punctual
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment and processes
- Comfortable in a physically demanding role, including:
- Lifting up to 50 lbs
- Frequent lifting, bending, and standing
- Working in warm and humid environments
- Team-oriented mindset; willingness to rotate tasks and cross-train to support the full production team
- Genuine interest in food and fermentation ("foodie" curiosity encouraged)
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
Experience in food production, commercial kitchens, baking, brewing, fermentation, dairy, cheesemaking, or other hands-on manufacturing environments is helpful, but not required.
Compensation & Growth
- Starting at $19/hour
- Starting pay may be higher for candidates with directly relevant cheesemaking, food production, or manual-transmission driving experience
- Employees who demonstrate strong work ethic and reliability — and can apply prior food or production experience effectively within our operation — may progress more quickly through pay increases
- Pay increases are earned through demonstrated performance, continued learning, and consistent contribution to the team
