What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outside Sales - Kent position at Motors And Controls?
Customer Productivity Advisor
Outside Sales | Full-Time | Territory-Based | Kent, WA
Who We Are
Motors and Controls Corporation is a family-owned industrial electrical solutions company that has been in business for over 47 years. We’re a team of misfits who genuinely love what we do and we’re good at it.
Our mission is simple: we make our customers more productive. We do that by saying yes, getting them up and running, and being their technical solution. We specialize in industrial controls, VFDs, power distribution, custom panel fabrication, and engineering services. We bring over 300 years of combined experience to every problem and when a manufacturing plant goes down, our average time to deliver a solution is 5 hours.
We believe in taking care of our people: our customers, our employees and their families, our vendors, and our partners. Every voice is heard. Want to join a team where leadership is focused on facilitating your success? Tired of corporate red tape? Apply today.
The Role
This isn’t a typical sales job. The Customer Productivity Advisor carries MCC’s mission into the field, building the relationships, uncovering the opportunities, and earning the trust that makes MCC indispensable to the customers we serve.
You’ll manage an established book of business across a defined territory that includes OEM manufacturers, MRO/maintenance facilities, industrial and HVAC contractors, and institutional buyers. You’ll be backed by a talented inside sales team so you can stay focused on what only a human presence in the field can do.
The mission: show up before something breaks, know your customers’ operations well enough to spot problems they haven’t named yet, and become the person they call before they call anyone else.
What You’ll Do
- Own your territory: manage a defined customer base with consistent, scheduled touchpoints and deep account knowledge
- Build relationships at every level: upper management, purchasing, maintenance supervisors, and the floor
- Identify and grow wallet share: expand what customers buy from MCC beyond their current habits
- Introduce customers to MCC’s full capability: distribution, custom panel fabrication, and engineering services
- Conduct qualified plant audits at MRO accounts using MCC’s standardized audit form
- Develop new accounts through referrals, warm introductions, and strategic prospecting
- Document activity, opportunities, and account notes consistently in CRM
- Bring relevant product recommendations and market intelligence to every visit
- Partner tightly with inside sales so the customer never feels the seam
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- A genuine track record of building and maintaining long-term customer relationships
- Comfortable in a technical environment without needing to be the technical expert
- Self-directed: can prioritize a territory independently without waiting to be told what to do
- CRM discipline: logs visits, tracks opportunities, maintains a clean pipeline
- Strong communicator who listens more than they talk
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred:
- 3–5 years outside sales experience in industrial distribution, electrical, mechanical, or a related trade environment
- Experience with motor controls, VFDs, power distribution, or industrial electrical products
- History of developing new accounts and growing wallet share within existing accounts
- Familiarity with OEM, MRO, contractor, or institutional/government procurement
Compensation
Salary Range: $70,000–$100,000 total annual compensation
Base salary of $70,000/year plus a 5% commission on monthly gross profit (activating at a $30,000 GP threshold, retroactive to the first dollar). A performance bonus program rewards high-value activities including new account development, competitor product line switches, panel shop quotes, and qualified plant audits.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid vacation and sick leave
- Paid holidays
- 401(k) with company match
- Vehicle or vehicle allowance
- Ongoing manufacturer training and product education
Sound Like You?
The right person for this role genuinely enjoys people. Customers can tell the difference between someone who’s paid to be nice and someone who actually cares. You show up when there’s nothing to sell. You follow through every time. You don’t need to be the smartest person in the room; you need to be the most reliable one.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today.
Salary : $70,000 - $100,000
