Tropical Foliage Grower assistant

Moss Hill Foliage Inc. has an opening for a full-time, formally educated Horticultural Grower assistant. We operate 135,000 plus square feet of climate controlled, gutter connected greenhouses in Apopka, Florida the self-proclaimed “Foliage Capital of the World”. We specialize in the production of starter material, tropical foliage liners, as well as 3” and 4” pot sizes. We are fully equipped with overhead irrigation and ebb and flood benching.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grow top-quality crops in accordance with production parameters and product specifications outlined by Greenhouse Management
• Daily assessment of crops to identify any disease, insect problems or abnormalities
• Making sound judgements when making decisions on specific crop needs
• Accurately identify irrigation requirements of various crops and carry out watering as necessary
• Applying chemicals, fertilizers, and biological controls as needed to maintain health of crops, in accordance with OSHA and company safety procedures
• Perform regular soil and water tests to evaluate pH, Alkalinity and EC and interpret results
• Work with all departments to identify new ways to improve processes in the areas of logistics, placement, etc; Identify, test and document new methods
• Evaluate data to identify crop challenges
• Evaluate greenhouse temperature and humidity to control crop growth
• Monitoring tasks for accuracy that are being performed by our production team
• Assist in responsibilities for the cleanliness of the greenhouses with other departments
• Keep all spray records and company grower guides up to date
• In charge of new crop/program trials and documentation of progress in company grower guides
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in horticulture / botany
• 2 years of experience
• Detail oriented, self-motivated and willingness to learn from our current staff
• Good observation skills
• The ability to communicate and interact well with others is essential
• Ability to problem solve and seek solutions to problems
• Knowledge and experience with greenhouse crop production is a plus
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment allowing for flexibility
• Flexible work schedule; overtime and weekends
• Ability to lift as much as 50 lbs.
• Ability to drag and use a 100-foot garden hose for spot watering
• Excellent math skills
• Demonstrated computer literacy

• This is a full-time position, averaging 45 hours per week. Shift scheduling allows Position for a 2-day weekend
