Position Purpose: The Luxury Buyer & Clientele Specialist plays a dual role at MOSS Designer Consignment, combining strategic buying with elevated clienteling and sales leadership. This position is responsible for curating exceptional inventory through thoughtful consignment selection, cultivating strong relationships with top consignors and clients, and driving sales through deep product knowledge and personalized service.

This role requires a sharp fashion eye, strong analytical skills, and a natural ability to build trust with high-value consignors and clients. The Luxury Buyer & Clientele Specialist works closely with the Store Manager and leadership team to ensure inventory aligns with MOSS’s brand, customer demand, and sales goals. This position may also act as Manager on Duty (MOD) when needed to support store operations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:  

Buying, Inventory & Merchandising

  • Evaluate, select, and price consigned merchandise in alignment with MOSS quality standards, brand positioning, and current market trends.
  • Maintain efficiency and accuracy when entering new inventory into the POS system.
  • Stay informed on designer history, current resale values, and competitive market pricing to ensure strong sell-through.
  • Monitor inventory performance and make data-driven buying decisions to optimize sales and profitability.

Consignor & Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with top consignors, providing a consistent, elevated, and professional experience.
  • Proactively source and acquire new consignors to meet or exceed monthly buying and acquisition goals.
  • Manage relationships with out-of-state consignors to grow mail-in box consignment volume.
  • Follow all MOSS consignor policies and procedures, including onboarding new consignors and sending required communications.

Sales, Clienteling & Customer Experience

  • Deliver a luxury-level client experience through personalized styling, product expertise, and proactive outreach.
  • Develop and maintain a strong client book, nurturing long-term relationships with high-value clients.
  • Communicate regularly with clients via email, text, phone, social media, and in person regarding new arrivals, drops, markdowns, and store initiatives.
  • Uphold and model MOSS service standards on the sales floor at all times.

E-Commerce & Marketing Support

  • Partner with the Store Manager to manage Shopify webstore operations, including inventory selection for web, listing accuracy, and sold item management.
  • Collaborate with the in-house photographer to ensure timely and on-brand web photoshoots.
  • Prepare and send weekly Mailchimp campaigns according to established cadence and drop schedules.

Analysis, Reporting & Strategy

  • Analyze weekly and monthly sales trends and inventory performance to inform buying and selling strategies.
  • Prepare and share regular inventory and consignment performance updates with store leadership and upper management.
  • Present key inventory insights and takeaways during monthly staff meetings.

Leadership & Store Operations

  • Communicate relevant buying, inventory, and client insights to staff to support sales performance and consistency.
  • Step in as Manager on Duty when needed, including opening and closing the store, overseeing cash handling, preparing end-of-day deposits, and completing EOD reports.
  • Ensure all store policies and procedures outlined in the MOSS Employee Handbook are consistently followed.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with the Store Manager and leadership team regarding store needs and growth opportunities.

Scheduling & Availability

  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week, five-day workweek.
  • Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility to provide occasional weekend and holiday coverage as needed for business operations or MOD responsibilities.


Role Focus & Time Allocation

This is a hybrid role combining strategic buying with luxury clienteling and sales leadership. Time allocation may flex seasonally based on business needs.

Percentages are intended as a guideline and may shift based on seasonal volume, staffing needs, and business priorities.


Core Buying & Inventory Management – 60%

  • Consignment selection, evaluation, and pricing aligned with MOSS brand standards and current market demand
  • New consignor acquisition and ongoing relationship management with top consignors
  • Inventory data analysis, sell-through monitoring, and buying strategy adjustments
  • Mail-in box consignor outreach and management
  • E-commerce inventory selection, Shopify listing accuracy, and coordination of web photoshoots
  • Weekly and monthly inventory reporting and trend analysis
  • Preparation and execution of Mailchimp campaigns tied to drops and inventory flow
  • Staff education related to incoming inventory, designers, pricing, and buying policies

Core Sales, Clienteling & Store Leadership – 40%

  • High-touch luxury clienteling, including styling, wardrobe building, and proactive outreach
  • Development and maintenance of a client book with consistent communication
  • Driving personal and store sales through product knowledge and relationship-based selling
  • Acting as Manager on Duty when needed, including opening/closing procedures and cash accountability
  • Supporting store operations, floor leadership, and customer experience standards
  • Collaboration with store team on promotions, consignor outreach, and social initiatives
  • Representation of the MOSS brand on the sales floor with professionalism and polish


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of buying experience in luxury retail, consignment, or specialty fashion environments.
  • Strong background in clienteling, sales, or luxury customer service.
  • Deep knowledge of luxury and contemporary designers, fashion trends, and resale pricing.
  • Proven ability to analyze sales data and apply insights to buying and sales strategy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, polished, discreet, and service-oriented demeanor suitable for high-end clientele.
  • Proficient in POS systems, Shopify, Microsoft Suite, Canva, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks related to inventory and sales floor maintenance.
