Position Summary
Mosley School of Cosmetology is seeking an experienced Lead Instructor to provide academic leadership, classroom management, instructor support, and student supervision.
We are looking for an experienced beauty-school educator who can lead a classroom, support other instructors, maintain strong academic standards, and prepare students for graduation and Michigan State Board examinations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MUST currently hold an active Michigan Cosmetology Instructor License
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing and running a classroom
- Must currently be working in a cosmetology/beauty school or have worked in a school within the last 24 months
- Strong classroom-management and leadership experience
- Experience with theoretical and practical instruction
- Experience with student testing, grading, evaluations, and record keeping
- Experience preparing students for State Board examinations
- Must be dependable, organized, professional, and able to hold students accountable
- Must be willing to learn all services and techniques included in Mosley School of Cosmetology's curriculum, including lashes, nail sculpting, and State Board practical procedures
Lead Instructor ResponsibilitiesClassroom & Academic Leadership
- Provide theoretical and practical instruction
- Oversee classroom structure and daily educational activities
- Conduct theoretical testing, grading, and record keeping
- Conduct practical assessments and evaluations
- Administer junior, mid-term, and final theoretical and practical assessments
- Complete student evaluations and progress reviews
- Identify students who are falling behind and assist with intervention plans
- Provide student support, re-directive counseling, and disciplinary intervention when necessary
- Ensure instructors are following curriculum, lesson plans, and school procedures
State Board Preparation
- Prepare students for Michigan State Board examinations
- Conduct mock State Board practical and theoretical examinations
- Provide Pre-State Board examination preparation
- Assist students with PSI/State Board exam registration
- Identify skill deficiencies and provide corrective instruction before graduation
Practical Education
The Lead Instructor must be willing to learn, demonstrate, and reinforce all practical services taught by the school, including:
- Haircutting and styling
- Hair coloring and chemical services
- Natural hair services
- Lash services
- Nail services
- Nail sculpting
- Michigan State Board practical procedures
- Additional services incorporated into the school's curriculum
Student Salon Leadership
- Oversee student salon activities and service assignments
- Assist with client consultations
- Provide front-desk oversight when necessary
- Monitor student salon assignments, grading, and record keeping
- Coach students on the 360° client experience
- Provide retail education
- Supervise client retention and follow-up
- Enforce the school's Standard of Conduct
- Provide student support, intervention, re-directive support, and discipline
Instructor Leadership
- Serve as a leader and resource for the instructional team
- Support instructors with classroom management
- Help maintain consistent educational standards throughout the school
- Ensure instructors are prepared for daily lessons and demonstrations
- Assist with training and developing instructors
- Monitor lesson plans, grading, assessments, and classroom expectations
- Communicate student and instructor concerns to school leadership
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
This is not an entry-level instructor position.
We are looking for an experienced educator who already understands how to successfully run a beauty-school classroom, lead students, support instructors, maintain accountability, and uphold school standards.
An active Michigan Cosmetology Instructor License is required for this position.
Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
