POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, industry-aligned instruction that prepares students for college, careers, and lifelong learning in fields such as agriculture, manufacturing, metals, construction, and related technical disciplines. This role combines hands-on, project-based learning with academic rigor, fostering the development of both technical skills and core competencies. The CTE Teacher will support student engagement through leadership organizations such as SkillsUSA, maintain strong partnerships with industry and community stakeholders, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure alignment with district goals and state standards. A successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity, safety, innovation, and continuous improvement in a dynamic, student-centered learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be CTE certified or eligible for CTE certification and obtain credentials within 2 years in areas such as photography and/or video production
  • Obtain V-Code endorsements in:
    • COMMERCIAL DESIGN/APPLIED ART (V500400) 
    • COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (V100100) 
  • CTE coaching and mentoring experience required.
  • Knowledge of SkillsUSA or equivalent student extracurricular programs.
  • Must possess current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • ELL experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in SkillsUSA operations and related events.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within site-based decision-making teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written) with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Commitment to student-centered, standards-aligned instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Capable of operating and maintaining CTE equipment, and lifting/carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Skilled in integrating relevant technology into instructional practices.
  • Ability to supervise assistants or paraeducators and train them in relevant curriculum areas.
  • Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to continually seek instructional improvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned with state standards and CTE curriculum reflected in the state approved course framewok.
  • Clearly communicate learning targets, expectations, and objectives in both verbal and written form.
  • Modify curriculum and differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Activate prior knowledge and provide structured lessons that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Regularly assess and monitor student learning using formative and summative assessments.
  • Guide students in self-assessment and goal setting for academic growth.
  • Remain current in CTE content-related pedagogy and implement research-based instructional practices.

Classroom & Program Management:

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and collaboration.
  • Manage student behavior through clear expectations, consistent consequences, and proactive interventions.
  • Supervise student safety in the classroom, labs, and during extracurricular or off-campus activities.
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols for equipment use and maintain clean, functional facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, behavior, inventory, and instructional materials.

CTE-Specific Duties:

  • Prepare and support students for CTE competitions such as SkillsUSA.
  • Keep current with industry trends and collaborate with local employers and advisory boards.
  • Maintain CTE program facilities, tools, and equipment in alignment with state and industry standards.
  • Coordinate field trips, student job shadows, and other work-based learning experiences.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and ensure supplies and materials support instructional goals.
  • Transport students to events and ensure safety protocols are followed during travel.

Professional Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in PLCs/Data Teams to improve instruction and student outcomes.
  • Initiate communication with parents to engage them in their child’s education beyond mandatory conferences.
  • Share information about CTE programs, student progress, and events with stakeholders.
  • Support school-wide initiatives and contribute to building-level decision-making.
  • Consult with counselors, specialists, and paraeducators to develop interventions and instructional support plans.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, in-service training, and professional development.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide for the care and protection of school property and maintain a professional classroom space.
  • Demonstrate creativity and initiative in developing new program offerings aligned with student interests and industry demand.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building or district administration.
