Project Engineer – Embedded Systems

Project Engineer – Embedded Systems to lead the development and launch of PCB-based embedded electronic products. This senior-level individual contributor will combine technical leadership with direct engineering involvement across hardware, firmware, product integration, testing, manufacturing readiness, and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate has a strong embedded electronics background and is comfortable working across electrical hardware, firmware, and limited mechanical integration. This person should be able to evaluate schematics and component datasheets, troubleshoot hardware and firmware interfaces, write embedded C/C code when needed, coordinate vendors and cross-functional teams, and keep multiple product-development efforts moving forward.
Responsibilities:
- Lead embedded product-development projects from initial concept and requirements through design, verification, production release, and product launch.
- Coordinate engineering activities across electrical hardware, firmware, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, product management, suppliers, and other internal teams.
- Define project requirements, schedules, deliverables, technical risks, open items, and action plans.
- Design, review, and troubleshoot PCB-based embedded electronic systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, component datasheets, interface specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Diagnose hardware, firmware, and peripheral interface issues and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Develop and support embedded firmware using C and C .
- Support microprocessor-based systems and interfaces involving sensors, displays, buttons, controls, audio devices, and other hardware peripherals.
- Work with embedded communication interfaces such as I2C and I2S.
- Evaluate technical options and provide input regarding future product features, design changes, component selection, and long-term product impacts.
- Translate product-management and customer feedback into practical engineering requirements and product features.
- Collect and analyze technical information from engineers, product managers, suppliers, technical documentation, laboratory testing, and engineering evaluations.
- Coordinate with vendors regarding components, technical issues, schedules, documentation, and product requirements.
- Develop, test, and document product compliance with applicable domestic and international standards, including FCC, UL, and European regulatory requirements.
- Prepare engineering documentation, test records, manufacturing documentation, and production-release packages.
- Support prototype development, product verification, production readiness, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
- Track multiple projects, priorities, action items, and technical issues simultaneously.
- Identify opportunities to improve product-development processes, engineering practices, and cross-functional coordination.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, and technicians while remaining actively involved in design, coding, debugging, and testing.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 5 years of hands-on design and development of electronic assemblies or demonstrable competencies
- Experience with microprocessors, FPGAs, analog circuitry, sensors, displays, user controls, and Li-Ion battery-powered products
- Experience with embedded interfaces such as I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, or similar protocols
- Experience developing products that combine embedded hardware, firmware, and mechanical components
- Experience with wireless RF or audio products
- Experience with new product development and new product introduction.
- Familiarity with Stage-Gate or similar product-development processes
- Experience supporting FCC, UL, European, or other domestic and international product certifications
- Experience working directly with component manufacturers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers
- Background in consumer electronics, automotive electronics, industrial equipment, appliances, manufacturing, communications products, or similar embedded product environments
- Experience supporting products with long service lives and evaluating how current design decisions affect future product needs
