Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate healthcare claims using billing software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Review medical records to ensure proper coding with CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding standards
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly to maximize collections and reduce outstanding balances
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers regarding billing inquiries and payment issues
- Maintain detailed records of all billing transactions, adjustments, and collections in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Stay current with healthcare claims management practices, health insurance policies, and medical coding updates
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient questions related to bills and explaining insurance benefits clearly
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing and collection processes within a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and health insurance procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and healthcare claims management tools
- Familiarity with CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding standards, DRG classifications, and ICD coding practices
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in billing and coding tasks
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information confidentially in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Exceptional communication skills to effectively liaise with insurance providers, patients, and team members
