Mosaic provides shelter, counseling, and comprehensive social services as well as legal representation. Summary
Mosaic Family Services’ Multicultural Legal Services Program provides trauma-informed/responsive, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive civil legal representation to Mosaic clients who are survivors of intimate partner violence and human trafficking. The primary legal services provided are Family Law (Divorce, Custody Litigations, Child Support, Protective Orders), Immigration (VAWA, T-Visa, U-Visa), and Victim Rights representation. The Legal Program Director will oversee, supervise, and provide support for the day-to-day operations and team, and provide direct legal services to survivors. This position will also work collaboratively with the Senior Director, Case Management, Counseling, Shelter, Housing, and other departments, and community partners, to ensure a holistic approach and best outcomes for survivors. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, innovative, and a team player, and should display competency and sensitivity in representing clients that have low-come and/or other barriers and challenges.
This position is primarily government grant-funded and dependent on government funding availability and awards for each agency fiscal year. The Multicultural Legal Services Program is currently funded by multi-year federal grants.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities - Programmatic supervision of legal services program.
- Supervises and/or supports legal staff, interns, pro bono attorneys, volunteers, or accredited representatives including recruitment, hiring, training and professional development, staff engagement and teambuilding, and staff evaluations.
- Oversees legal work provided by attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, interns, and/or volunteers.
- Ensures that staff deliver trauma-informed/responsive, survivor-centered, culturally responsive services in a manner that reflects Mosaic’s mission, core values, and approaches.
Program Management Responsibilities
- Day-to-day oversight of program operations, including budget, service delivery, and case load and priorities in consideration of client, staff, and community needs and gaps.
- Maintains and updates agency and program policies and procedures in compliance with agency, grantor, and/or state and federal requirements and law.
- Manages grants and funding requirements, including preparing grant reports to meet target and outcome goals, attending training and meetings, reviewing materials, and communicating with grantors in a timely manner.
- Monitors program, case files, data collection, and client feedback for quality assurance and accuracy.
Direct Services Responsibilities
- Coordinates client referral process.
- Provides consultation, brief advice and services, and full representation.
- Maintains a client caseload proportional to management duties and respond to crisis situations when necessary.
Liaison Responsibilities (Internal and External - Community Outreach, Education, Partnerships)
- Provides community outreach and education, and professional training on legal rights and remedies available to survivors.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships and collaborations with law schools, legal service providers, professional associations, law enforcement, and other community organizations, providers, and groups, etc.
- Collaborates with the Victim Services leadership team in support of cohesion and alignment with vision and goals.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintains and utilizes updated professional knowledge and development of legal, family violence, human trafficking, community resources, trauma-informed care, and other related topics.
- Participates in ongoing supervision and evaluation with Supervisor.
- Other job-related duties assigned by Supervisor and/or their designee.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent from an accredited law school
- Currently licensed to practice law within the State of Texas (or ability to obtain Texas Bar license during probationary period)
- At least two (2) years of experience supervising staff, paralegals, legal assistants, interns, and/or volunteers
- At least four (4) years of experience practicing either family law or immigration law
- Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate staff
- Ability to provide and receive feedback and respond in a constructive, supportive manner
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
- Ability to effectively work, communicate (oral and written), and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and/or other professionals
- Strong writing, communiication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in technology skills (e.g. Microsoft, Adobe, Legal Server, etc.)
Preferred
- Experience serving domestic violence and/or human trafficking survivors
- Prior legal services, public interest, or volunteer experience servicing low-income people
- Demonstrate commitment to issues involving immigrants, refugees, and other underserved populations
- Professional fluency in written and spoken Spanish and/or other language(s)
