Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Inpatient Veterinary Technician to join our emergency care team, primarily on weekends. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in veterinary medicine, excellent technical skills, and a passion for managing and monitoring hospitalized patients requiring intensive care. This role is crucial in ensuring continuity of care for patients admitted for ongoing treatment after emergency stabilization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide continuous monitoring and supportive care for hospitalized emergency and critical care patients.
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and nursing care for inpatients with complex medical needs.
- Accurately perform and interpret diagnostic tests, including blood work, radiographs, urinalysis, and other lab work as needed for inpatients.
- Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments according to prescribed plans, adjusting as directed.
- Monitor and document vital signs, pain levels, and behavioral changes, communicating updates to the veterinary team promptly.
- Maintain meticulous and detailed medical records for all hospitalized patients.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and fellow technicians to develop and implement individualized inpatient care plans.
- Provide compassionate communication with pet owners regarding patient status, progress, and discharge instructions.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe environment in the inpatient wards, treatment areas, and ICU, following hospital protocols.
- Participate in training and mentoring of fellow team members to uphold high standards of inpatient care.
Qualifications:
- An Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program is preferred, but not required.
- Current veterinary technician license in New Mexico is preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience in an emergency, ICU and critical care setting is required.
- Strong technical skills in veterinary nursing procedures and diagnostics.
- Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and organized in a high-pressure inpatient environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team and client interactions.
- Some holidays are required.
