SUMMARY
The Purchasing Analyst is responsible for coordinating purchasing, inventory analysis, and material flow activities to support efficient production and shipping operations. This role ensures accurate procurement, inventory control, and material availability while maintaining strong communication between purchasing, production, warehouse, shipping, and suppliers. The position contributes to overall company performance by improving inventory accuracy, reducing excess inventory, and supporting operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Extensive computer use while performing duties such as order entry, inventory tracking, and order changes.
- Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requests.
- Searches inventory records or warehouse to determine if materials on hand are in sufficient quantity.
- Initiates purchase requisitions and prepare purchase orders for suppliers.
- Maintains records of items purchased and computes total costs of purchases.
- Coordinates with production, sales, shipping, warehouse, and carriers regarding purchase order status and material availability.
- Communicates with suppliers concerning late deliveries, quality issues, and supplier performance.
- Verifies supplier invoices against bids and purchase orders and approves invoices for payment.
- Maintains and files purchasing, inventory, and shipping records.
- Compiles statistics and prepares reports regarding purchasing and inventory activities for management.
- Maintains and improves inventory practices by analyzing inventory, production, and customer order data.
- Coordinates with production, customer accounts, and purchasing teams to prevent excess and obsolete inventory.
- Reviews and corrects bills of material (BOMs) to improve inventory accuracy and system efficiency.
- Works closely with operations staff to ensure proper recording of intercompany inventory activities.
- Assists floor operators with correcting and consolidating raw material components and finished goods inventory.
- Conducts inventory counts and audits of materials on the work floor and warehouse.
- Supports shipping and warehouse operations as needed.
- Performs filing and other administrative duties.
- All other duties as assigned.
