Mortenson is currently seeking a Substation Technician who will be responsible for constructing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing high-voltage electrical substation equipment and systems to ensure safe and reliable power delivery.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers, circuit breakers, relays, capacitor banks, regulators, and associated substation equipment.
- Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables.
- Construct and install grounding systems, steel structures, conduit, and other substation infrastructure.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Execute approved switching procedures and assist with energization, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to identify and correct equipment failures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, testing, and inspection records.
- Follow all OSHA, company, client, and project safety requirements while utilizing required PPE.
- Respond to emergency outages and support restoration efforts as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical, vocational, or Associate's degree in Electrical Technology or related field preferred.
- Minimum two years of electrical, utility, substation, power delivery, or related experience; apprenticeship completion preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, substations, and safe work practices.
- Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work at heights, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and customer service.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work on project assignments as needed.
