What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Mortellaros Nursery Ltd?
The Custodian is responsible for performing cleaning, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. Knowledge or willingness to learn proper cleaning techniques is essential. The Custodian position is a physically demanding position which requires routine walking, standing, bending, and lifting objects.
Responsibilities:
- Wash, disinfect, and restock supplies in restrooms and lunchrooms at the office and throughout the nursery,
- Sweep, vacuum, and mop wood, tile, and concrete floors,
- Empty interior and exterior trash cans and barrels, replace liners, and collect garbage to place in dumpster,
- Dust and clean all surfaces,
- Install, replace, and power wash/clean floor mats and rugs,
- Wash windows and wipe doors clean as needed,
- Wash water fountains, eye wash station bowls, and sinks throughout the nursery,
- Clean trash cans and barrels and replace lightbulbs and air filters as needed,
- Apply paste wax and burnish tile floors annually,
- Operate equipment, including but not limited to, central vacuum system, floor scrubber, floor burnisher, power washer, and utility cart with a trailer to dispose of collected garbage.
- Maintain custodial closet and storage areas in clean, organized, and safe manner,
- Maintain thorough inventory of cleaning supplies and promptly notifying Purchaser of reordering needs,
- General Housekeeping, and
- Other custodial duties to be performed on a rotational basis with supervision at Schertz and Poteet locations.
Facility Information:
> Schertz, TX:- 70-acre facility comprising a main office with eight offices, one lunchroom, and five single-stall restrooms.
- Field office with a large lunchroom and smaller office.
- One single-stall and three multiple-stall restrooms in the nursery.
- Approximately three dozen exterior trash barrels spread across 70 acres.
> Poteet, TX:
- 35-acre facility comprising a field office with a single-stall restroom.
- One large lunchroom.
- Two single-stall and two multiple-stall restrooms in the nursery.
- Two unoccupied residences, cleaned every 2-3 months.
Requirements:
- Work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Depending on the seasonal workload, it may be necessary to work before and/or after the scheduled start and end of day times.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.
- Submit to a Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Report Check.
- Perform manual labor while working indoor and outdoor, exposed to all weather conditions.
- Lift up to 50 pounds. Assistance will be provided for heavier or bulky items.
- Stand for long periods of time and endure extensive walking.
- Maintenance of property will require an ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and squat.
- Load and unload garbage and supplies on and off trailers.
- Adhere to proper labeling, dilution, and usage of all cleaning chemicals and wear appropriate safety gear.
- All applicants who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo and pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Employees, thereafter, will undergo and pass random drug and alcohol testing.
