- NJ School Nurse Certification required

- Develop and direct an on-going program of health services at the local building level, in accordance with district and state requirements.
- Help maintain a safe and healthy school environment for all students.
- Provide health counseling to pupils and parents.
- Participate with the Intervention and Referral Services Team and Child Study Team members, when necessary, in the health screening of pupils in need of interventions or those suspected of having disabilities.
- Administer medications, as prescribed by a physician, provided by, and with the permission of the parent, in accordance with State law and Board policy.
- Provide emergency care for all students and employees in case of accident or illness, and arrange for transportation, medical care and accompany to hospital, if necessary.
- Maintain a confidential cumulative health record for each student, which will include, but may not be limited to:
- Immunization record
- Health history.
- Results of screening programs.
- Results of physical examinations.
- Visit log.
- And other state and district regulations as required by law.
- Administer, evaluate and follow up on health screenings, as required by law.
- With the principal, exclude student from school for failure to meet state immunization requirements.
- Prepare accident reports and insurance forms for students and employees.
- Prepare reports on immunizations, TB, staff accidents and any other health related subject, as required by law.
- Participate in implementing the health curriculum, per building needs.
- Ensure confidentiality of the health records of all students and support a climate of appropriate confidentiality in the school.
- Stay current with best practices in school nursing, in order to inform the district’s response to health and safety issues that may occur in the course of the school year.
- Stay current with appropriate technology, in order to research health information and document care effectively.
- Ability to assist students with physical disabilities in order to meet their daily needs which may include lifting.
- Attend daily and overnight trips, as needed.
- Perform such other duties as required by law or may be assigned by the Superintendent or his designee.

Effective September 1, 2011, The New Jersey First Act implemented May 17, 2011, requires all employees of a school district to reside in the state of New Jersey. Employees of the Morris School District hired after the effective date who do not reside in the State of New Jersey at the time of hire have one year from the effective date of employment to relocate their primary residence to New Jersey. Employees of the school district hired prior to the September 1, 2011 effective date of this Act are grandfathered and are not required to relocate to New Jersey.
