Job Description

  • Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Prepares patients for physical therapy treatment by welcoming, comforting, providing and/or assisting patient into physical therapy apparel or apertures.
  • Provides information to patients by answering questions and requests; allaying fears.
  • Helps treat patients by applying heat packs; paraffin wax; helping patients onto exercise equipment, monitoring motion; tracking walking time and distance; performing prescribed exercises and strengthening techniques.
  • Educates patients by demonstrating proper use of equipment and exercise routines.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides equipment and supplies by sterilizing and delivering equipment and supplies to treatment area; positioning equipment for therapist access; positioning patient on equipment.
  • Ensures operation of physical therapy equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instruction; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains physical therapy supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Serves and protects the community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances physical therapy department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Organized, skilled assistants, Physical Therapy Aides are efficient multitaskers who can manage multiple priorities at once. They are also excellent communicators capable of building relationships with patients and families. In order to achieve success in the role, they must exercise strong problem solving and decision making abilities as well as a knowledge of and respect for standard policies, regulations and confidentiality agreements.

Qualifications


EDUCATION: 

High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.

EXPERIENCE

No specific prior experience required. Comprehensive training will be provided to the selected candidate to ensure proficiency in job responsibilities.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

 

Excellent customer communication skills and strong relationship building skills for interactions with patients, medical providers, and other staff members are required 

REASONING ABILITY

Possess strong time management and organizational skills. Able to define problems, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions. Able to interpret technical instructions in mathematical and diagram formats.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficiency in both English and Spanish is essential.  Demonstrate effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Proficient in arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be capable of walking, standing, and moving for a significant portion of the day. Should demonstrate proficiency in manipulating equipment and lifting and transporting objects, equipment, and supplies. Anticipated lifting capacity is 20-25 pounds, with occasional requirements to lift up to 40-50 pounds.
