In this role, the Driver Assistant will accompany a Senior Driver or Driver on a pre-planned route while providing superior customer service as they unload, deliver, and install furniture.
General Description Of Duties
- Successfully work as a team with the Senior Driver, Driver, or other warehouse employees to safely load specified merchandise onto the truck in the correct order for delivery
- Items are typically on skates and can be pushed from the staging area directly onto the truck
- Bulky and awkward items should be loaded as a team
- Workers are required to ask for assistance with material handling of items greater than 100 pounds.
- Whenever possible workers should utilize various wheeled assistive devices such as dollys, carts, and skates to manipulate materials onto the truck
- Carefully handle furniture during delivery in all weather conditions to ensure safety for yourself, the customers, and the furniture being delivered
- Keep an accurate and up-to-date delivery log of all delivery stops utilizing the specified technology and process determined by management
- Follow the company process and guidelines to appropriately greet and communicate with customers at all delivery locations
- Determine the safest and most appropriate way to transport furniture into the delivery location
- Respond to communication from headquarter location regarding any route changes or updates
- Work together with the Senior Driver or Driver to move furniture items to designated location at the delivery site
- Complete any final assembly and/or set up as indicated by product type
- Assist in the assembly of merchandise that is scheduled for delivery, when necessary
- Ability to safely load and unload a box truck
- Ability to safely lift 50 pounds
- Ability to quickly move your hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects when handling, installing, positioning, or moving furniture
- Ability to assemble all Morris Furniture Co., Inc. products
- Work as a part of a cooperative team where the members may change frequently
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of Morris Furniture Co., Inc. Driver Training Program
- Valid State-Issued Driver’s License
- DOT Medical Card
