What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resource Conservationist position at Morris County Soil Conservation District?
Overview
This unique, AI-proof role has a dual focus: 1) Soil Erosion/Sediment Control [SESC] – inspection and regulation of construction sites, and 2) Agriculture - farm site visits and support of the new Agricultural Conservation Program [ACP]. Role combines field inspections and in-office work in Morristown (parking provided). It is a permanent, full-time (40 hours/wk), salaried position, which offers generous paid time off, healthcare, and a New Jersey State pension.

Responsibilities
- SESC: assist applicants and their professionals in the implementation of SESC plans
- ACP: assist ACP Manager with developing and implementing conservation plans
- Conduct field inspections and clearly communicate the results in a timely and professional manner
- Carefully document field work and project status
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the NJ Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Act
- Develop expertise in Agricultural Conservation techniques and best management practices
- Build working relationships with farmers, municipalities and partner agencies
- Survey, design of Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs)
- This is very specialized work, so training will be provided by the District
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree – preferably in Environment, Sciences or Engineering
- 2-4 years of full-time work experience is ideal
- Computer skills – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.), Access & GIS are a plus
- Valid NJ Driver’s License and Vehicle for use in inspections (mileage is reimbursed at $0.70/mile)
