What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse - Night Shift position at MORRIS COUNTY HOSPITAL?
JOB SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse (Charge or Staff) will assist in completing the duties of their shift and overall departmental and hospital needs. She/he renders nursing care in all areas of the hospital, aids in supervising the work of the aides; administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician. She/he uses medically technical equipment, keeps accurate records in regard to patients and as a reference for the doctors documenting in the electronic health record. She/he attends to inpatients and outpatients in the emergency room and throughout the hospital, maintains good rapport with the physicians and the other co-workers. Those adequately trained and so designated will circulate in surgery as needed. She/he assists physicians with treatments. The RN must be fully aware of each department and its functions. These include the nursing department, emergency room, delivery room, surgery, nursery, intensive care, X-ray and lab. The RN must be alert and responsive to identification of and problem-solving methods to assist the aide/LPN/ward clerk to performance of the needed care. Attend monthly meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Staff Nurse is ultimately responsible for assessment care and delegation of care of the patients on his/her shift of care. The Staff Nurse will be responsible for medications and the med room and will help with care and treatment of patients. The Staff Nurse should give nursing care according to physician's orders, is responsible for recognizing significant changes in the patient's condition, and should be able to operate technical equipment with ease and accuracy, assist in training nursing service personnel duties. She/he must be able to manipulate fingers and hands well in handling equipment and instruments, should have good visual and hearing acuity to notice changes in patient's condition. She/he must have good physical and mental health.
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
The special demands required of a Staff Nurse consist of a willingness to work with competence and accuracy. She/he must have a genuine interest in nursing. She/he must be able to maintain good rapport with all customers of the hospital and project a positive hospital image. She/he must have tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, their family and friends. She/he must be alert in recognizing and reporting symptoms. She/he should have good judgment and initiative in choosing the treatment for unusual or unfavorable conditions. She/he must be alert and resourceful in emergency situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Staff Nurse must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure in the state of Kansas.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
The Staff Nurse must have an adequate knowledge of nursing theory and practice. She/he should have knowledge of the new trends in medicine and administration of medicine. She/he should have adequate knowledge of nursing principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and in caring for medical emergencies. Must know the policies and procedures of this hospital and the rights of the patient. Techniques of administering treatments, preventing spread of disease by proper disposal of infected material.
