Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Product Specialist 4 / PowerBuilder Developer to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and production support of a critical legacy business application.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with PowerBuilder, PowerScript, DataWindows, SQL, and Oracle databases, along with the ability to analyze and reverse-engineer legacy applications with limited technical documentation.

This role is primarily focused on application maintenance, production support, troubleshooting, and low-risk enhancements. The selected candidate will also have opportunities to support other applications developed using C#/.NET and contribute to future technology modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents and production support tickets.
• Maintain and enhance existing PowerBuilder applications.
• Diagnose issues involving PowerScript, DataWindows, SQL, Oracle, and application interfaces.
• Analyze existing code, object inheritance, business logic, and application data flows.
• Reverse-engineer undocumented or unfamiliar legacy application components.
• Troubleshoot DataWindow retrieval and update logic, computed columns, nested DataWindows, and composite DataWindows.
• Use PowerBuilder development and troubleshooting tools such as Object Browser, Find in PBLs, cross-reference, and dependency analysis.
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries embedded within DataWindows.
• Support application builds, releases, and deployments as needed.
• Investigate application interface and data-processing issues.
• Create and maintain technical documentation as application knowledge is developed.
• Clearly communicate technical findings, risks, estimates, and recommended solutions.
• Respond to routine and priority production issues within established support timelines.
• Provide technical support for other applications developed using C#/.NET.
• Participate in application transition, modernization, and future platform initiatives as required.

Required Qualifications

• 5 years of hands-on PowerBuilder development experience.
• Strong experience supporting and maintaining legacy PowerBuilder applications in production environments.
• Advanced knowledge of PowerBuilder DataWindows, including:
• Retrieval and update logic
• Computed columns
• Nested DataWindows
• Composite DataWindows
• Strong PowerScript development skills.
• Experience with event-driven programming and object inheritance involving windows, menus, and user objects.
• Strong ability to debug and understand undocumented or unfamiliar codebases.
• Experience using PowerBuilder tools such as Object Browser, Find in PBLs, cross-reference, and dependency reports.
• Strong SQL skills, including analyzing and tuning SQL used by DataWindows.
• Experience working with Oracle databases.
• Experience troubleshooting application interfaces and data-processing issues.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to document technical findings, changes, risks, and deployment procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with C# and Microsoft .NET enterprise applications.
• Experience with ASP.NET Web Forms, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, or ASP.NET Core.
• Experience supporting financial applications, including fund management, budgeting, or capital-program funding.
• Experience documenting legacy applications and business processes.
• Familiarity with source control, backup, build, and release-management practices for PowerBuilder applications.
• Experience working in enterprise or government environments.

Work Arrangement

• Hybrid position in Dover, DE
• 2 days onsite per week
• Tuesday is a required onsite day; the second onsite day is flexible
• Candidates willing to relocate to Dover are welcome.
• Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
• Occasional extended hours on Wednesdays may be required for production/system support.
• 37.5-hour workweek

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior PowerBuilder professional who is comfortable working independently on legacy applications, investigating problems without extensive documentation, tracing business logic through PowerScript and DataWindows, and working directly with SQL/Oracle databases. Experience with C#/.NET is a strong advantage but is secondary to the PowerBuilder requirements.
