What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1st Shift Production Supervisor position at Morinaga America Foods?
Essential Duties and General Responsibilities:
Operations & Production Management
- Control the flow of materials and coordinate labor to ensure all daily production goals are met efficiently.
- Effectively manage start-up, end-of-shift, changeover, and cleaning processes to minimize downtime.
- Investigate and report causes for delays in production plans, raw/packaging material loss, and non-conformances, and assist the Production Manager with countermeasures.
- Monitor inventory of raw/packaging materials and finished goods (candies).
- Complete and fill out the shift Pass-On Report with clear and accurate information.
- Supervise employees to follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
Food Safety & Quality Assurance (QA)
- Responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality, and environmental practices.
- Maintain open, constructive, and professional communication with the Quality Assurance department.
- Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation, and safety protocols at all times.
- Ensure all product quality processes are followed and documentation is accurately maintained.
People Management & Leadership
- Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staffing for effective performance and response to fluctuating workloads.
- Manage operators’ attendance and discipline them accordingly, adhering to company policy.
- Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals.
- Participate in the hiring process (screening, conducting interviews, and making recommendations).
- Resolve personnel problems, or complaints, or refer to higher-level management or HR for resolution.
- Identify employees with potential for development and implement cross-training plans.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to relay information and address specific topics (e.g., safety, quality).
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: 1-3 years of working experience in a supervisory role in a manufacturing facility.
- Technical Knowledge: Proven strong working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and familiarity with FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Flexibility to work during the weekend if extra production days are added (these days are mandatory and subject to disciplinary actions if absent).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., Food Science, Operations Management, Engineering).
- Process Improvement: Lean, Six Sigma, or other Continuous Improvement (CI) training/certification.
- Language: Bilingual fluency (e.g., English/Spanish).
Job Skills:
- Administrative & Technical: Accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, basic math skills (for measurements and reporting), sound judgment, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Leadership & Communication: Reliability, ability to multi-task, excellent verbal and written English language skills, adaptability to competing demands, ability to handle confidential information, and a high level of customer service.
Pay: $29.00 - $34.00 per hour
